Vw jetta door lock

The locking mechanism on my VW Jetta Sportswagon completely failed me last week. Hitting the unlock button on the remote access key would IMMEDIATELY lock the car doors back and sound the "locked" alarm; Turning the physical key in the door to the unlock position would still activate the IMMEDIATE electronic lock and "locked" alarm would sound; Sitting in the car with doors intentionally unlocked, I opened the door to get out and the "broken into" alarm went off and was only disengaged by hitting the unlock button on the remote access key. I took the car and keys to the dealer and they ordered and replaced the L/F Window Motor. WHY?

SOURCE: VW Jetta alarm malfunction

Go to your local junk or scrapyard and pull them yourself. The dealer charges an average of 90-100 dollars an hour. So a lot of the money they quoted you for was probably for labor

SOURCE: 1998 Vw Jetta opened door with Key alarm sounded cant shut off

I had the same problem. I had lost the wiring connection between the drivers door lock (where the key goes in) and the alarm. The only way to fix this was to rewire the connection.

I am not 100% sure what breaks the connection - probably wear and tear on the wire with the door opening and closing.

This has happened to me twice in the last 5 years.

Probably best to have the convenience system scanned by a dealer or VW specialty shop. Sometimes a door lock mechanism fails and doesn't recognize that it's been unlocked.

Key stuck in jetta door lock

Cheapest way is to get a second hand one with a key from a breakers you will have a different key for the lock. The mechanic probably can't give you an estimate because he will get a genuine one from V.W. with the V.I.N. of your car so the same key will fit both door and ignition. This will cost a lot V.W. new part's are expensive

2001 VW Jetta 1.8L - Front RH Door Lock won't lock

I have a similar issue on a 2001 Jetta sedan. jandkat seems to be talking about the old system that VW used (pre-1998). To my knowledge there is no vacuum-based locks in the 2001 models. I've had the door completely apart and there are defiantly not any vacuum hoses. The only 100% for sure fix I have found is to replace the door latch mechanism. There are some other options but I'm not sure they would completely fix the issues you are having. Now for the bad news: you can only get this door latch mechanism from VW dealers. I have yet to find a place online or elsewhere that carries them. They are around $185 for the latching mechanism and if you don't want to install it, be prepared to pay another $200 or so in labor. If you do want to do it yourself, here is a great site that has step-by-step how to take a VW door apart: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1015107

Hope this helps

How do i get my wireless key to work on my vw jetta after replacing the battiry in it

place the key in the door depending on the model. driver side door. Turn it to lock for a few minutes, back to neutral, then press the lock button on the remote after taking out the key. The VW should chirp and let you know its programmed, if not you mihgt need a VAG to do it.
