Question about 2000 Dodge Durango

2000 durango blower

My 2000 durango blower just suddenly stopped. It was working great and then...nothing all of a sudden. I tried looking for the resistor but can not find it nor can I find any postings for this year. Only 2001 and up. Is there a resistor for the 2000 or do I need to replace the motor fan itself?

The blower motor is located under the passenger side of the dash. there should be power on the dark green wire at the blower motor. If there is no power check the 40 amp blower fuse and the blower relay. If there is power than ground the light green with white wire with the blower motor plugged in. If the blower does not come on than the blower is bad. If the blower comes on than you have a ground issue. The system is ground side controlled which means the switch provides ground. If the blower does not work on high I would suspect the ground wire is burnt on the backside of the switch since high speed bypasses the resistor.

This prob sounds like an engine intake valve is stuck open. This is usually caused by very high revs! Check the compression on this cylinder. Frankster016

I've never seen a vehicle w/o a blower resistor. You don't need to remove the blower. The resistor is about 2 inches x 3 inches and is installed in a hole in the plenum (duct) near the blower motor. It will have a wiring harness connected to it. It could be under the passenger dash or under the hood, depending on where the blower motor is.

Sounds like the blower resistor. It can make contact and break contact as it heats up and cools down. This would cause sudden changes. If the airflow gradually changes speed, it could be the blower motor binding, such as if the motor lubrication has become very old or used up.

Motor shuts down when reaching normal operation temp

Sounds like the mass air flow sensor or the air intake temperature sensor. Sometimes just wiping out the throttle body/air intake can make all the difference

Look on passenger side under dash area, where housing & floor meet, just about dead center. Blower should be right of where you'll see harness going to the resistor

Was the blower making strange noises before it quit? If not, does the blower work at all? perhaps only on one speed? If it only works on one speed, look for the resistor that goes with the blower motor. I assume it will be near the blower itself, but can't tell you where. An auto parts store can probably tell you. If the blower was noisy and suddenly quit, you will likely need to replace the blower motor.
