SOURCE: 2002 civic ex overheating

with your description it sounds like your fans are not coming on, also sounds like the problem was never solved, sounds like you threw a lot of money at your problem also... check to see if the fans are coming on at the right times, seems like a n air movement over the radiator since you say it only gets hot in stop and go traffic... well when your driving at a constant highway speed guess what you have air movement through the radiator... check also a clogged ac condensor with bugs, pressure wash it out so the air can pass through it easily... please rate my help thanks

SOURCE: hi what is the head torque on a 2002 honda civic

Dont forget to apply clean engine oil to the threads of each bolt for proper torquing. Then finger tighten. Then

    1. Tighten the cylinder head bolts to their final torque specification in 4 steps. Use a crisscross sequence starting with the bolts at the middle of the head and working toward the outer bolts as follows: Step 1: Tighten each bolt to 14 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).Step 2: Tighten each bolt to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm).Step 3: Tighten each bolt to 49 ft. lbs. (67 Nm).Step 4: Retighten only the 2 center bolts to 49 ft. lbs. (67 Nm).
    1. Step 1: Tighten each bolt to 14 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
    2. Step 2: Tighten each bolt to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm).
    3. Step 3: Tighten each bolt to 49 ft. lbs. (67 Nm).
    4. Step 4: Retighten only the 2 center bolts to 49 ft. lbs. (67 Nm).

    2002 dimension knock sensor position

it is on the rear of the block under the intake manifold. hard to see from to might need to get to it from underneath. The cheapest I have found them for civics was on amazon. they brake really easy and most of the time if you find a civic at the junkyard it is already been taken.

Losing speed on my 1991 honda civic

Possible clogged catalytic converter would be the first thing to look at but if that is the case the Check Engine light should be illuminated. If the CE light is on, then you should get the code Catalytic Converter below threshold. Your converter will also get very hot with the engine running. It will get so hot it will turn red. You may also hear a hissing sound at the exhaust manifold.

this means you O2 sensor is off, check your sensor, it should be located under the hood front of the engine mounted in the exhaust manifold, be careful and make sure the manifold is not hot, I hope this helps you.

I have a 2002 Honda Civic Ex, it has been over heating but only in stop and go traffic, never on the freeway, i have replaced, timing belt, water pump, cooling fan relay, cooling fan switch, flushed radiator. There is no white smoke coming from the tail pipe and the oil is clean, when the car gets hot i can smell the coolant pretty strong, car has never completly overheated gets about 3/4 of the way til red.
