Question about 2008 GMC Acadia

1 Answer

Acadia white smoke, high temp and fan won't come on

Out of the blue yesterday after turning on my Acadia, white smoke started billowing out of the tailpipes. Noticed that the temp went quickly to 210 and the fans weren't coming on. If I turn the AC on, fans do come on. No trouble codes. If I let it cool, everything's fine on startup for a few minutes...then it happens all over again. Any ideas?

Do you have an extended warranty ?
Usually white smoke from the exhaust means the engine is burning coolant thru a blown head gasket or intake gasket.
You should also be low on coolant in the radiator.

SOURCE: My 2008 Acadia is overheating.

it sounds as though your acadia may not actually be overheating, it sounds more like the tempeture sensor is bad, if its "froze" at a certain reading this could fool your computer, you should be able to replace this part for around 20 or 30 dollars. hope this helps

Disconnect the module and power the motor direct from the battery and see what happens.-----------The problem is the blower motor control module is shorted. This is a common concern these trucks. The blower control module is located next to the blower motor. It has 2 wires that come out of it and goes to the blower motor, it also has a small wire harness going in to the module. If you unplug this module, the blower will stop. You need to replace this module to repair this issue. The module is plug and play, no programing needed.
--------

This module have one plug that goes into the unit and two wires going out of it to the blower motor

with two mounting bolts and two silver plates on the othe side of it.

I bought a acura 96 car drives great just smokes bad uses min oil

Blue smoke often means bad rings. Expensive repair. Black smoke could mean bad valves. Also an expensive repair.

Check compression. Your mechanic can do that easily, and should not cost a lot.

I have a 99 Saab 9-5 2.3L turbo. When I shifted it would blow white smoke for a second. Yesterday it started billowing smoke then died. Now it won't start and it turns over very rough. Please help.

Generally white smoke is a sign of coolant in the engine.
Its possible you have blown the head gasket and coolant is leaking into one or more of the cylinders.
You could pull the spark plugs and check for coolant - also run a compression test.

I have a 1997 dodge dakota and there is smoke coming in from the heater vents some times it doesn't happen but most of the time it is billowing out. Could be heater core or water pump not sure

Only way to get smoke (steam) billowing in is a faulty heater core. It won't steam until the engine is warm. You should also be smelling an odor unless you have pure water in your cooling system. That vehicle requires the removal of the steering column and entire dashboard to replace the heater core.

1st issue. My car has suddenly started smoking, white smoke from the exhaust, did I overfill the oil or is it more sinister than that. I haven't lost power that i can notice. Will excess oil burn off like...

You might be looking at a head, or head gasket issue. White smoke is usually due to coolant mixing in your combustion chamber, or cylinder. Blue smoke is from oil. Your loss of coolant and high temperature might be the clue. A leak down test and coolant system pressure test should tell the tale for you.
