No reverse There is no reverse. Just bought the truck so unaware of the history. You can put it into reverse, but it will not respond. It is very quiet, so no funny noises when changing gears.

Make sure your transfer case lever is fully engaged into high position. If this isn't it, your transmission has more than likely failed. There isn't a computer that controls these transmission and if you were low on fluid it wouldn't pull in the forward gears either. I would suggest taking it to a transmission shop and have them physically look at it and confirm.

I believe this got hooked up in reverse polarity. It will not work know. Can it be repaired?

Hello Mike,
I believe... the big danger with hooking up batteries in reverse polarity... is the explosive RISK.

It seems you got away with that...

(although it is a VERY good idea to have fresh water & baking soda IMMEDIATELY NEARBY if you do manage to provoke an explosion. Once you are blinded, perforated by battery shrapnel, burned & soaked in ACID you won't be thinking clearly).

Most everything in your car is rated for 12 volts... the POLARITY is only important for magnetic direction... Such as windows going up instead of down... seats going forward when switched to go back... Lights don't care... Diodes and transistors simply won't respond...

With the possible exception of some rather unique POLAR capacitors ... but we know that is really not all that wise... No/yes?

Perhaps now would be time to analyze what the ORIGINAL problem was when the battery got removed, reversed... Make, year, Model... and operational issues... and history...

Just put the battery in correctly (Battery & Ground) ... and start with the BASICS.

FUEL, FIRE & AIR... I would be happy to make more relevant suggestions as you progress... Just comment me back.

Stay safe... work safer...!!

Replaced transmission fluid on 1994 dodge ram 1500 4x4 and now the transmission is slipping. Does it need to be bled? I put it through all gears with o/d off and on. Also, now it squeals and grinds in...

The transmission was slipping for some period of time
You were unaware of it

Now that you changed the fluid, the new
fluid only made it slip worse

I only tell you this, because I once owned a
trans repair business

You didn't do anything wrong,you just didn't
know you has issues

The trans will have to come out and be
completely rebuilt

Trans does not want to respond in reverse & o/d light is flashing

With high mileage automatic transmissions, that have not been regularly replacing the transmission oil, it can cause major problems if you do change the oil. The sealing integrity in the valve block can be lost by flushing with new oil,
Firstly, just check and make sure the oil level is correct. Do this by running the engine, with your foot on the brake, go through all the shift positions 2-3 times, holding in those positions for a few seconds each time. Then put into park , still with the engine running, and check the oil level . if its a little low, add a small amount at a time till you get the correct level, each time going through the shift positions and then checking.
