I have a 1987 k5 Chevy blazer. The brake lights are not working. The hazard lights work, the running lights work, and the blinkers work. I have checked all the fuses and light bulbs and I still can't get the brake lights to work. Please help!

Do you have power in and out of the brake light switch ?

The switch has double connectors an orange and white wire on one terminal and the other has 2 blackish grey wires and one blackish grey with a white stripe. I replaced the light bulbs and the switch and the hazard breaker. The orange wire has power but not the other one on top. Still no brake lights.

The orange wire is power for the brake lights. The white wire goes from the switch to the turn signal switch, then to the light bulbs. When you depress the brake pedal the white wire should be hot. The other wires are probably for the cruise control.

  • Shannon Bettner May 01, 2013

It does have cruise control and it has a separate switch mounted beside the brake light switch. It has purple and a pink with black stripe wire. It has a vacuum line attached to it as we'll. I thought that was the cruise control switch.

You may be right. I know the vac hose is for the cruise. Either way, the white wire should be hot when the switch is engaged.

  • Shannon Bettner May 01, 2013

The white wire is hot when the switch is engaged but still no brakes. The three blackish grey wires on the connector above it do not have any power.

The white wire goes to the turn signal switch. So chances are the problem is inside the turn signal switch.

SOURCE: 2001 dodge neon tail lights inop

looking at your schematics and , you say tail lights don't work , you didn't mention if front parking lights and license plate lights are working , they all come from the same source , a black /yellow wire , a good clue if front work and rear don't , please advise .if fronts work then you have a open circuit somewhere between junction S118 (near breakout for left headlamp) and rear sockets.

SOURCE: bottom brake lights and hazard lights do not come on. All other lights work including top brake lights. Fuses and bulbs checked.

Check for power out of brake light switch by brake pedal. Of its faulty , the 3rd brake light will still work. Hope this helps

SOURCE: 99 Chevy Tahoe... Rear turn signals, brake lights, and hazards

I had this problem, and to be honest, it happened to the left side about a week later...it's the board that the bulbs plug into...it's a very common problem with this model. So popular that you can normally get the socket board off the shelf at a parts store! it's extremely simple to replace, and I replaced all the bulbs at the same time!

Ok i have a 1976 k5 blazer and all of the sudden my blinkers stopped working. The hazzards work but when i hit the brakes alll of my lights stop blinking and stay solid.I checked my fuses but all is well...

when the hazards are on and you step on brakes yes the lights will go solid, this is normal design and are suppose to do that. under dash there is a blinker (flasher) silver or blue in color, 1 1/4 " in diameter about 1 " thick with two male flat prongs. It either plugs into fuse box or there is a female plug dangling under dash that it plugs into. check for power with test light, if power is present then flasher is bad. if no power (with key on and blinker on, left or right side ) then check plug wires back to fuse box. if you have power to those then check the blinker switch power.

Blinkers in a 1987 chevy camaro not working inside or out. what might the problem be?

Have you checked the signal light flasher?
You have one for the hazard flashers and one for the turn signals.
Try the hazard flashers.
If they work....switch that flasher with the signal flasher....(they should be interchangeable).
Follow the clicking sound to find the hazard (working ) flasher.
(It just pulls out )
To find the non working signal light flasher....just look for another flasher under the dash that looks very much like the hazard flasher.
Now try the signal lights again with the different flasher installed....do they work now?

IF you put the vehicle into park it should release fairly easily. Do not try to force it. If park doesnt work try nuetral but I believe on that it is park.

97 Chevy truck blinkers not working but hazards do

Try replacing the Flasher first before spending to much money for a possible simple fix. If it's not your flasher then it could be the turn signal leaver.
Ok, this may seem stupid, but that's what they did to the blazer. They set the flasher near the middle and under the center console behind the radio.

It's to the left of the radio right behind the dash. The hazard flasher and the turn signal flasher are side by side.  It right next to the Cig lighter behind the panel. They do mark the turn signal from the hazard flasher on the plastic behind them. Turn is on the right.

Good luck and hope this helps.

Brake lights do not work chevy blazer 2001

You have a bad multifunction switch in the steering colum. The same thing happened to me on my 2001 LS Blazer. There was a recall for this item, and if you go to your Chev dealer they can run your VIN and see if it had already been replaced under the recall. If not, you may be in luck for a free fix.

That was not my luck, even though I had the same failure it had already been "fixed" during the recall, and that repair cost me over $300.00

Good luck!
