Need to replace solenoid on 2008 Kia Picanto automatic

Car makes fast clicking sound when attempting to start(typical of flat battery), but battery reads 12.5V, and is barely 1 year old. She starts immediately when jumper cables are used from another vehicle(i.e. 2 batteries work) so colleagues suggested my solenoid is kissed. Any help/suggestions on how to remove/ replace it please? Auto part shops want the sample to match up as apparently they dont go based on car make/ model? Thanks, Ru

thanks Tom, do you think the starter is ok, I would assume the fast repetative "ckicking" sound is the starter trying to turn engine over, but stopping short at busted solenoid, or could it be visa versa?!?!?! I know I'll be in for a bit more cash replacing starter, but don't want to fork out to replace a perfectly good solenoid if it is other way around?

From what you describe, there is a good posssibility that the solenoid is "kissed". The reason why the parts suppliers want to do a visual match is that different starters may have been used in production of your Kia

SOURCE: 96 ford explorer no power no crank no anything

Sounds like a connection problem/error. When you replaced the starter solenoid, do you remember how many wires you disconnected and reconnected?

Was there any indication ( sparks, etc) of accidentally causing a short when you replaced the solenoid?

Your initial problem of no start but hearing the click sound is almost a sure fire indication that the starter is NG. If the solenoid clicks, that means that it is applying 12 volts to the starter.

hope this helps Good luck Loringh

The neutral safety switch is located in the shifter housing.

Here is a link to a good article on this topic, that would beat an explanation from me.

Yes, it sounds like the NSS is the culprit.

Connect battery>>>>try unlocking the vehicle from the inside (door closed), using the power un/lock button. Make sure the key is set to the "on" position. Most of the time this works. If this doesnt work, try using the key to lock and unlock the door through the key hole. Hopefully this helps!!

SOURCE: Car wont start: 1. Had it tested technician sad

Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.

To confirm the problem, the basic troubleshooting is required.

Had a free brake check done it says pads front near side 8.14mm.disc drums 15.61.off side pads 8.24,disc drums 15.91 .must be done now.is this correct.this in on a Kia picanto 2008.automatic

8.14mm (0.320 inch), 15.61mm (0.6145 in)
Is this the pads or disks and drums they're measuring? Drums at 15.61 seem to be plenty thick. Especially when they don't do much braking.

I would contact a auto parts supply company and just ask them what those specifications are for your vehicle, they should have the numbers because they sell replacement parts.

2007 kia picanto hard to start in the morning.got to push start it after that it starts till the next morning. what is the problem with this car

Hi, this might be because of a voltage drop on the cables or the battery needing replacement. The colder the weather the more current your starter will braw. You can check for a voltage accross the bateery by connecting a volt meter to the battery and crank it if the voltage drop below 9.6V your battery might need replacement, if not you will need to see what the voltage drop is on the solenoid. You should have battery power on the terminal that activates the solenoid in order to get the solenoid to energise. If you do not have battery voltage on that terminal I suggest putting a relay between the ignition switch and the starter or replacing the wiring harness between the 2. Also check the connection on the ignition switch itself as you can get a bad connection there to.
