If the start switch(key switch) malfunctions it could effect a array of electrical components. Is the switch solid or does it have play in it....

Well I actually took out the dimmer switch found the hot wire the dim wire n the ground n if I hook the dim n ground together without the switch then the cluster lights gear shift lights and everything else connected to the dimmer switch works so it was the dimmer switch that went out now the problem is finding one by tomorrow as I'm in southern Utah fixing my exs car if I have to order one then ill just send a vid on how to replace the switch if needed lol but I'm sure she can figure it out if needed. I thank y'all for your help

Actually the cluster was working fine til I went to replace the cigarette lighter n it has a light so when I went to cut the wires n install the new one I accidentally let the two wires for the light touch each other an ones hot n the other for the dimmer and now the cluster lights n all the lights attached to the dimmer switch are out. My guess is the dimmer switch is out or there's one of those damned secondary fuses somewhere under the dash I'm going to bypass the dimmer switch by finding the hot wire. Marking it the running a hot wire to the other two wires going to the dimmer switch n see if the cluster lights up. So if it does then I know the dimmer switch went out and if not then I know there's those secondary fuses on the wires themselves which that car isn't worth tearing the dash out so then ill just get some led lights an set them on the cluster an wire them into the lights so the led lights will come on when I turn the lights on. So all this is my best guess as all the lights in the cluster for like service engine or showing that the high beams are on all still work it's just the lights that associate with the dimmer switch like accessories or cluster ect thanks for the above post to try n help

SOURCE: 95 saab 900 turb0 gauge cluster works intermetanly

I have this problem too and my new Saab mechanic told me that I would probably need a new instrument cluster. He said a brand new one costs $2500 but that he would order me a used one from a car that had fewer miles than mine as you can set them back but not forward. He both diagnosed and temporarily "fixed" the problem by slamming his hand really hard on the dash over the panel and all the lights and gauges immediately started working fine....for now. I haven't had the work done yet (I have a 1998 Saab 900S with 130K) so if anyone has any other ideas about this I would love to know what they are. This issue with the gauges and dash lights has been happening on and off for over a YEAR and this is the first time someone has had any idea what it is. I already had my ignition switched replaced so we know that's not what it was. THANKS

It sounds like the connection to the cluster is not making good contact.

SOURCE: I have a 1996 saturn

couple things to check. The dimmer switch may have failed open. Try moving the adjustment back and forth to see if the lights flicker. If you understand rheostats, perhaps you can test the dimmer.
You can also check the back of the instrument panel to make sure the connector for the lights is still connected. Also, make sure your parking lights are coming on OK. If not, the problem is propbably the relay in the relaybox under the hood. If you have more questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

1996 Saturn sl2 cluster acting strange mph and temp working then stop working changed battery plus alternator is it a fuse if so please guide me in the right direction for fuse

Maybe a lose connection or corrosion in the circuit somewhere or stepper motor internal to instrument cluster . Stepper motors are what move the needles to the desired position. An GM had step motor problems . No, couldn't be a fuse or the whole instrument cluster would act up. There is one fuse for the entire instrument cluster , located in the I/P fuse box . IGN.1 10amp fuse . Go to http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html free wiring diagrams . Enter vehicle info , make , model an year ,plus engine size . Then under system click on body & acc. Then under subsystem click on instrumentation an check out wiring diagram . Go on you tube an watch videos on basic electrical testing an voltage drop testing . Get a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter an test the circuit . You'll get hundreds of different reasons on here , but best to learn to test for yourself . More then likely you'll need to have your instrument cluster fixed or replaced .

I have a 2002 Saturn sc2 coupe, none of the interior instrument cluster/dash lights work. I am havinf a heck of a time finding a fuse box diagram, which fuse controls those lights? The panel doesn't h

The fuse panel is on the side of the dash where the drivers door opens up. The cover is right there. The diagram is on the back of the fuse panel cover. It will say cluster or dash Lts. If fuse is good try turning dimmer dial on left side of dash, it may be turned down just below gas guage

My dash lights aren't working. I've checked all the fuses and they are fine.

Hi Rblack, As the fuses are all okay the most likely cause is that the bulbs that illuminate the instrument panel have blown. If you look at the instrument panel I'm sure there are some screws which hold it in. Remove those and gently pull the instrument cluster forward and check the lights for operation. Regards John

Dash lights dont work on my 97 blazer

All lights, or just your illumination lights? Illumination: bulbs need replacing. All lights; SERIOUS problem. There is a dash panel fuse on car. check that. Has anyone done any work recently under dash( like installing a radio)? May be they accidentally pulled a connector loose behind dash. Need to pull your instrument cluster to check that. Usually two big connectors with lots of wires going to back of instrument cluster. If no power at all with key on: check under hood at power distribution center for a main big fuse out.

Need take dash apart to fix gas gauge

i suggest you first rule out the fuel level sender in the gas tank. if you have ruled that out, buy a used instrument cluster on eBay and replace the whole thing, you can't fix just the gauge.

The dash lights and gauges in the dash are not working properly, gas gauge will say 1/8 and be empty. Periodically they will all fall to 0 on all gauges and stay there till you smack the top of the dash...

Hello it sounds like a ground or connection problem to you dash cluster. I would pull the front driver side dash board appart and unscrew the the instrument cluster check wiring for being loose or corroded at the plugin. if that checks out good no corrosion the instrument cluster itself might have a problem. I seen the instrument cluster go bad before that is probably it.

Instrument panel went dead

Checked Every fuse in the fuse box (no small task). This includes #4 - Power point Instrument Panel, #14 - Day time running lamps (auto lamps doesn't work nor does auto lock), #27 - ignition switch run feed, #35 - Instrument Cluster, #41 - Instrument Cluster, #42 - Delayed Accessory, #45 - Ignition switch run/start feed, #102 - Door locks body security module, #103 - Ignition switch, #110 - Ignition switch, & #116 - Ignition switch. But I also check all other ones as well, they all register OK. AC panel & radio work. Turn signals work. Mileage does not work, trip computer does. So, basically, everything works except auto head-lights, auto locks, and the dash cluster (no MPH, RPM, mileage display, Fuel, Temp, Tran Temp, and Oil Pressure).
