Does the radio work? Sounds like a switch issue to me, but always start with the basics when ever troubleshooting. If you verify power present where it should be - check the big red cable at the starter with a volt meter and be sure you have nearly the same voltage as the battery reads. Something simple like a loose/dirty battery cable or poor/dirty/loose ground will make you pull your hair out if you assume they are good (they seldom go bad, but then...25yrs...) then the probable suspect would be the switch. Check the voltages going to/from the switch in different attitudes (on, off, start, acc). If they're not what they should be then replace the switch.

These did have an issue with headlamps. Have the charging system checked for proper voltage(under 15v, usuall charging is around 14.5). The quality of the bulb is critical and must not be a generic brand. If this thing is still under warranty, get all the paperwork together ad take it into the dealer. How many miles are on this van? Another item to consider is whether or not you are touching the bulb with your fingers. The bulbs WILL burn out faster if the oils from your fingers sit on the bulb and cook. Make sure that the rubber drain on the lens assemblyis clear and not obstructed. Let me know. I used to work for KIA so I am versed in some of their practices.

Need to know the fuse sizes for a 65 mustang


Headlight switch has a built in circuit breaker (auto reset). Same with wiper.
ACCY (top fuse) is 14A.
HTR (left) is 14A
INST LT (center) is 2.5A
DOME (right) is 7.5A
CIG LTR (bottom is 14A)

Interior options (like radio and A/C) run off the stud on the back of the ignition switch and are separately fused (inline).

ACTION: Replace the fuel tank, vapor control valve, fuel fill tube cap and clamp. Install heat shield over fuel tank and reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). This should reduce the possibility of stalling. Refer to the following text for details.
Perform all diagnostics for stalling by following the procedures outlined in the 1996 Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Service Manual and 1996 Taurus/Sable Service Manual, Pages 03-13-5 through 03-13-8. Check to be sure Grounds 401 (sedans) and 400 (wagons) are secure. Check for a kink in the canister vent hose and repair as required. If no other concerns are found, reprogram the PCM using the latest level CD-ROM update disc and refer to the following PCM Application Chart for correct PCM usage. Replace the fuel tank, vapor control valve, and vapor management valve by following the procedure outlined in the Instruction Sheet included in the Fuel System Service Kit.

Engine cranks but won't start. Fuel pump isn't turning on the on position and no spark going out of distributor. could it be a wiring problem or is my ecm bad?


Check the fuel pumps operational value and, check the fuel pumps fuse and relay. If the fuel pump check out OK, i would then replace the(ecm).

You want to make sure the fuel pump is functional before you replace the ecm. The distributor ha sa on board CMP(camshaft position sensor), that will shut down the spark and fuel pump if it is malfunctioning.

It's normally located right at brake pedal arm, up toward top where it pivots. You'll see a switch with a plunger that gets pushed in when pedal is released. Usually pretty easy to do, but you have to stand on your head sometimes to do it. ha-ha
