SOURCE: how to replace master cylinder on 1989 century

You have to Remove the brake lines going to the cylinder, then remove the 2 nuts holding it to the brake booster.

Make sure u bench bleed the new master before you install, the new one should come with a bench bleed kit, u must attach the 2 hoses to both ports on the master cylinder where the brake lines connect to, then run the 2 hoses into the top of the reservor and fill it with fluid, use a screw driver and pump the master cylinder until you can see no air bubbles running through the hoses

Check for correct brake fluid level at master cylinder. If low, it is an indication of excessive front brake pad wear. If its still under warranty, have your dealer check the pads. Make sure the master cylinder is full of fluid in the meantime.

Where is the clutch master cylinder located

Open the hood, on the drivers side next to the brake master cylinder you will notice a small (1 1/2-2") black reservoir which says "CLUTCH" on the lid. Just follow the line down to the transmission.

  • the slave cylinder is mounted on the bell-housing of the transmission.
  • next to the brake master cylinder (where the brake fluid goes) is a small master cylinder. follow the fluid line coming off it and it will lead you to the slave cylinder.
