SOURCE: I have a 2001 Volvo S60 with Automatic

When was the last time you had a trans flush ? Sounds like you could use one. Trans fluid breaks down and doesnt work as well as i did when it was new. There are also sensors that tell it when to change gears could also be a sensor. I would start with a trans flush if it were my car. always try the least expensive first. then if u still have the problem look into calling a trusted transservice and ask them if the have any experiance in Volvo trans. if not fluid my bet is on a sensor in the transmission. Good luck and hope this helps ya.

SOURCE: Transmission hesitates shifting into second and perhaps third gear when driving slow. When acceleration is positive transmission shifts smoothly. Reference "99 Mercury Transmission" as Subject when

Several things could be causing your problem:

  1. Auto transmission fluid is low
  2. Auto transmission fluid needs changing; this is an area that gets neglected by a lot of people;check the fluid and if its brown or gives off a burning smell, it needs changing. Very old transmission fluid will cause slipping in the transmission; if this is the case, it should be changed along with the filter
Hope you find that this answers your question. Best of luck.
Greg

p.s. If you have the fluid changed, make sure it's done from the tranmission pan, not through the filler tube; siphoning through the filler tube can be hazardous to the transmission, especially cars with a lot of miles

SOURCE: '93 Celica GT 2.2L w/ Auto Trans. hesitates, jerks

hi,

sounds like a vacuum leak, injectors clogged, bad plugs, plug wires or maybe low tranny fluid or combo one all, have it dynoed to save yourself some money of course.

SOURCE: throttle hesitation

If you have no vacuum leaks, the injectors could be clogging up (winter gas or old gas can cause that) or the throttlebody may need cleaning. Use the correct cleaner that is O2 sensor safe! Also ensure the air filter is clean.

Engine pauses at mid throttle when hitting the gas hard.

Does it pause and stay there or does it proceed to climb in rpms after a brief pause. If it still goes on to climb then i wouldn't worry about it. if the mid throttle is as high as it goes the throttle cable or computer may be an issue. The computer may need to be reprogrammed with updated software to correct the problem in ither case.

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. You may want to try a new MAP sensor. This sensor can cause the rpms to jump as this. Make sure the throttle is not sticking as well.
