Question about 2000 GMC Sierra
Here is what I have checked/replaced so far: bulbs, checked fuses, i replaced the brake light switch and when that didn't work I dropped $150 on a new multi function switch because thats what everything i was reading was saying it likely was. Well that still didnt fix it so now Im leaning towards a bad ground maybe? I need a wiring diagram. does anyone know the best way to get one?
Beleive there is a junction box on those models that main tail lights harness comes too then is distributed out in seperate smaller harnesses.

SOURCE: 1998 gmc sierra brake lights
did u check that they not burn?if not you should Check the wires going into the steering column if you don't have separate turn signal lights and brake lights because if they use the same bulb then the turn signal may be bad. If I remember correctly that particular car doesn't work this way, but I include it just in case.

I have notice that this is a common problem. The socket most of the time goes bad, I don't know why but they just do. You can pick them up at any parts store for around 5.00 each. If you don't have a volt meter and ground straps to test it right, then I would try changing the sockets out. Quick and easy. Let us know how it goes.

The brake light switch is at fault. Get a new one and replace it. The location is at the brake pedal area mounted on a bracket with a plunger stud that rest on the brake pedal's arm the pad is attached to
