I think you have left a wire off the terminal that the wire from the battery goes too ,this feed is for the alternator and without it the alternator cannot self excite or pass a charge back to the battery

one thing to check is the positive and negative battery post's. check for any corrsion and even do a voltage test to the starter. check the grounds. The battery might be bad have you tryed to jump it? The battery light comes on when their is a dop in voltage in the sys.

SOURCE: need wiring diagram for 2000 dodge neon

i would recommend buying a Haynes manual, as they have very good diagrams and schematics. If you do not want to buy one, though, you can create an online garage on Autozone.com by registering (which is free) and add your car to the garage to get access to a free manual online. These manuals are kind of hit-or-miss, though, and i have had mixed results with them. But for free, it is worth looking into first.

i hope this helps,
matthew

Why does my 2005 neon make no sound when the key is turned?

all the neon I have seen have way to small battery cables and ground wires. We had this issue with our neon. Replace both ground to engine block and battery to starter cables , and terminal ends with heavy duty ones . and add a heavy duty ground cable from battery to body. this will permit the charging / starting systems to work with greater efficiency.

97 dodge neon turn key have lights but no crank or no noises

Is the car still in gear? If it is, then it will not start till you put the car in park. I've done this before and the same thing happened, had radio, lights etc...till I put car in gear and it started. Check the gear selector, if it's not in park, then put it in park and try to start. Hope that helps.

I need to change the starter in my 2001 dodge neon

The starter is located under the car where the transmission and engine meet toward the front of the neon. The starter actually bolts up with face toward the transmission. You must get the car up on ramps or on a hoist to see the starter. This is just a general method; it is very hard to give words to describe some of the steps without pictures. Removal: Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. Raise vehicle on hoist. Remove starter bolts. Remove starter assembly. Disengage latch and remove solenoid connector from starter assembly. Remove battery positive connector from starter assembly. It is not necessary to remove the alternator output lead from the connector. Installation: Clean corrosion/dirt from the cable and wire terminals before installing wiring to the solenoid. Attach battery positive connector to starter. Ensure alternator output connector is snapped into the battery positive connector. Tighten the captive nut to 10 Nm (90 in. lbs.) . CAUTION: It is critical that the alternator output terminal be connected to the battery positive terminal of the starter solenoid, for proper operation of the charging and cranking systems. Install solenoid connector to starter. Ensure that latch is fully engaged. Position the starter face into transmission housing. Start bottom mounting bolt and thread in until bolt is snug. Attach ground cable to upper starter mounting bolt. Ensure the proper starter alignment before tightening the starter mounting bolts to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) torque. Lower vehicle and connect negative battery cable.

if the starter is clicking, try tapping on it with a hard piece of wood, like that of a hammer handle, while someone tries to start the car. if it starts, replace the starter. also make sure electrcal connectins on the starter are tight and clean. and check the starter relay if applicable

Engine problems

The humming noise and the battery light being on is probably due to a worn out alternator. You can get the alternator checked for free at most Advance or Auto Zone parts Stores.

My 95 dodge neon batter wont jkeep a charge

Check the accessory belt tension. The belt should move 1/4 to 1/2 inch when you push on it. The alternator belt is closer to the firewall on a 96 neon. Also for a temporary fix until you figure out the problem get a solar charger that plugs into your cigarette lighter. Other possible causes; bad battery cables or connections. Check all connections are clean and tight (check both ends at the battery and at the starter and ground wire. Caution always remove negative battery first and replace last.
