Run the fault codes to find the reason that the engine light came on. It is very important not to just cancel out the light as it is there to let you know that something has gone wrong in the engine and transmission that if ignored will cost big bucks. It may be a coolant sensor telling you that the car is overheating but the temp gauge is not working properly. To cancel an engine light properly-- use a code reader as constant removal or the battery lead will corrupt the CPU program and give you more problems

As soon as i go uphill the heatgauge is rising, no sign of overheating.Eddie.

The thermostat controls the internal engine temp. Your t-stat may not functioning properly, (slightly closed and not opening to the right temp) while driving. I have had a very very very few of the Ford Rangers have an issue with the head gasket/head. Is your radiator full of coolant? Put vehicle on a slight incline while its still cold, open the radiator cap, and run the engine, up to operating temp on the temp gauge(if it will). With the vehicle on a slight incline, any air pockets that the engine may have, will be pushed up through the system and purged through the radiator. Make sure the radiator stays full and install the cap. Road test the vehicle on the same road that you had the concern on, to see if the issue is corrected. If not, I would check the temp of the coolant with some type of instrument that will mesure the temp properly.

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee temp gauge high when heat is on

If your "check engine" light is turn on, I suggest scanned the PCM to know exactly what fault code is stored there. Additionally, could be some problem with the "temp sending unit".

Keep us updated.

Temp guage stays on cold and engine warning light

You more than likely have a thermostat that is stuck open. When this is the case with the computerized vehicles today the computer tells your engine that it is still cold and dumps more fuel to the engine. When this happens the extra fuel goes through your exhaust and uaually makes the check engine light come on as you have O2 sensors that register this flow. Replace the thermostat, disconnect the negative side of your battery for 5 minutes and re-connect. If this has been going on for a while the light may come back on. You may have to drive it for a while until it clears all the excess fuel out of the system then do the battery thing again. You probably have been getting poor gas mileage as well. Hope this helped. Just make sure that the engine light does not flash as this is a sign of major problems and you should not drive it if it flashes

My fan stays on all the time

Engine temp sensor has gone bad, thinks the engine is hot even with the ignition off.
open the engine compartment fuse panel and remove the fuse for the fan so you dont run your battery down while you park it, put it back in to drive though, just till you get the new sensor.

Replace the temp sensor/switch located on the radiator.  Don't forget to drain your radiator and use teflon tape on the sensor when installing it.  DO NOT over-tighten.
