Some times removing the battery lead for 5-10 minutes will do the job. When refitting the lead allow several minutes for the CPU to reprogram itself. Other than that you will need the code reader tool to reset the CPU.

1994 Chevy corsica won't hold a charge changed alternator still won't hold charge

How old is the battery? Did you check wiring circuits for alternator? Do your dash gages show it charging while driving? If it drains over-night with key off, have to check amp draw, everything off.

My 2008 Chevy uplander I change alternator and the battery excellent but the alternator fail to charge

You need to replace the alternator my friend. Battery may be holding a charge for a short time. But if the alternator is not feeding back to the battery the car will start but only run for a short time.

Reset battery light

The battery light is on to warn the driver that the alternator is not charging the battery. If the light is still on you need to check the output of the alternator. It may still not be charging the battery.

I have a 1984 Ford F 250 that I changed the alternater and battery in. Its not holding a charge at all and its back firing as well. any ideas what could be wrong?

the only three things i can think of is youve either got a bad alternator ( yes if its a remanufactured one its possible) your battery is wasted (replace), or the wiring isnt correct and the alternator isnt providing to the battery.

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

If the battery light is on, I strongly suggest that you have the battery charged. It can be an indication of a weak battery or a faulty alternator. If the battery light still on after charging then the problem will surely be on the alternator itself. If that's the case the alternator should be replaced to resolve the problem.

If the battery won't hold charge even on a new alternator then the problem will be on the battery itself. It surely is in the end of it's service life and replacement will be necessary.

You may try to reset it to by removing the positive battery connector, letting it sit for at least 5mins. then reconnect it again. This will reset the system and can get the battery light off.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

the problem is either in the batterie or alternator. junkyard alternators are a 50/50 chance of working. you should go to your local parts store and have them do a batterie/ alternator test. they dont require you to take them out the car.

New battery and alternator. Battery still won't hold charge

Check all your fuses if you had a system failure it could have blown a fuse. I am not sure on your vehicle where the fuse is in the car or under the hood it could also have a relay. You can check your alternator by checking the voltage at the back of the alternator where the big wire bolts on. You should have 14+ volts at the alternator.

Car won't stay running.

alternator does not hold a charge it simply charges the battery by unhooking the battery you are taking all voltage from computer and car will not run the proper way to test your alternator is use a multimeter and check voltage at battery while car is running if you have 13-14 volts it should be fine.
