Sounds like this may be in the door switch. There is a small rubber covered switch in the door jamb. Pull the cover off the screw should be a bit smaller than a dime. Use a screw driver to remove the screw behind the cover. Check to see if the wire is hooked up. Push it on try to gently pull it off and then push it on again. This should solve your problem. If not check for power to the switch,

SOURCE: 2003 Honda Pilot lighting problem

the driver's door has a switch which tells the multiplexer control unit that the door is open and the control unit then switches on the lights. It sounds like the switch is not making contact when the driver's door is open. The lights work and the other door switches work--so it isn't a fuse or multiplexer problem.

SOURCE: Interior dome/map light replacement - 2008 Honda C-RV

You will have to pry off the lens CAREFULLY using a small screwdriver. There are two (or more) little plastic protrusions on each long side of the lens which fit into the casement. Look for very small slots along the side of the lens to insert the blade of the screwdriver. You can ease the casement away from the lens enough to get it to pop out. Re-inserting it is the same, but probably easier.
Gently, give it a try.
Hope this helps you.

You need to splice into the dome light wire. If the power requirements are too much for the dome light circuit, use the dome light wire to activate a relay that powers a new sill light circuit with it's own fuse.

Interior courtesy light

Page 116 and 117 of the manual explain that there's a two-position slide switch on the map light, DOOR and OFF. The back light has three positions, ON, Door Activated, and OFF.

2008 honda pilot tail lights wont work. Head lights , brake and signal lights work.

And the front side lights work?

Just go ahead and check the fuses to put that obvious issue away.

Once you're done with that, then go and check the rear light bulbs. We're working with the most obvious things first here.

After that, then you'll need to check any and all connections to the rear wiring loom as well as the wiring itself, all the way to the front.

I have to say at this point however, that in almost twenty years of working on cars, I have never had a wiring loom or connector issue to the rear side lights only. It's almost always the bulbs, bulb holders, or that someone has made a hash of the wiring.

Good luck.
