Question about Jaguar Cars & Trucks
Hi, I bought 3 weeks ago a 1996 Jaguar Vanden Plas, 4 Litres motor. But one time when I came back home, I took an exit and the car stall, so I had to put it on (P) parking to re-started it. I took the car few times, and everything was ok. I took the car to go take a ride today, and after 4 Stop, I try to go, but the motor stall again, and I tryed to re-start on Neutral...nothing, I put it on Parking, and the car start, and was ok to came back home and I don't want to go away with it now. I don't want to stall again ! The idle is ok on Drive (800 on RPM) Please !!!! What's this problem ??????
Could be anything or everything here ,i have the same vehicle which is my sunday car as i cannot afford the price of fuel for it compared to my diesel escort. Now i suspect the engine breather but i would need my head under the bonnet to find the exact problem as it couyld be the small vacumn pipe to the fuel shut off valve on the fuel rail ,a split or perished breather pipe .Anything in fact along these lines is what i would look at first .Before i would start looking at things like fuel pump pressure and worrying about computer diagnostics.Should start in neutral though as mine does so it may need the inhibitor switch looking at later but not urgent .Mine is nice to drive but as it came from scotland it is well corroded underneath which is what i have been doing this sunday morning and thats spraying the underneath with a evil mix of underseal, diesel and clean engine oil all mixed up ,i kinow it takes a while to dry out but ? the rust absorbs the oil mix from the paint and turns back into metal -and no i dont understand this action but i know it works

What you need to do is remove the 2 screws on the top bezel from inside the engine bay, then underneath the outer corner of the plastic headlamp surround there is a philips screw, (put your head under neath car near from wheel) loosen the screw, do not remove it, now the headlamp plastic bezel/surround will come free enough so you can get a philips screwdriver in through the middle of the headlamp surround, there is a chrome retaining ring holding the headlamp in place, loosen the 3 philips screws (do not remove) The retaining ring will rotate and you can slide the ring out from the outer edge of the headlamp surround. The headlamp will then come out throught the middle of the surround, disconnect the 3 pin multiplug and reverse process for install.

if the nuetral safety was a problem the car would not start at all, sounds like you have a defective engine wiring harness, this is the most common cause of this i have seen while working for Ford.
