Question about 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

1 Answer

Starting problems Howdy, I am a new member. I just inherited my Dads 1999 Silverado 1500 with only 75,000 original miles on it. I t has been working great until yesterday. The second time I tried to start it, it would not crank over. The battery is good. There is a one click sound and then nothing when in the starting postision. When I let off to the on position (ignition) there is a clicking sound coming from the stirring column and then a low humming noise until I shut it off and open the door. There are no sounds under the hood. Any advice?

SOURCE: won't start, good battery,

For as long as I've had my 2001 silverado I have ran into this same problem.. And of all things it may be that the battery lines and or post may be corroded and or the posts not fully tightend... Once I took care of those 2 simple things... All has been good

SOURCE: new starter new battery still wont start last

Very likely the new battery is defective - it happens. If you have a know good new battery, then also connect a jumper from the battery negative to the block just to be sure its not a defective or loose ground cable.

SOURCE: 1995 Chevy Silverado will not start Full charge on

Hi, sounds like a problem with the interlock switch. With manual trans, it's above the clutch pedal. With auto trans, it's in the range sensor on the tranny.

Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r6222268-engine_doesnt_crank_turn_over . These are generic instructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info.

Truck works fine in R, 1, and 2 nothing in 3 or D. 2006 Silverado V-6 automatic 1/2 ton

Hey Anon, Yes, drive it to the tranny shop..plan to leave it... sounds like you are in for a rebuild.. this is typical for GM RWD transmissions.. I have seen TOO many do this same thing,, (I have had TWO in for this... vehicles I inherited that were not maintained)..GM transmissions on RWD's must have the fluid and filter changed every 50K - 75K and a complete fluid exchange and filter replacement every 120K -150K MINIMUM for them to last..usually cost around $1200 - $1400.. sorry.. Good luck!

Depending on where you are checking the spark, orange may be rather weak. It should be white or blue.
If the plugs are dry and they have an orange spark, the coil may be going dead.

Will an engine bought from a 1999 Silverado originally sold outside of California pass California emissions

There are two type of emission classes.

Federal and California emissions.

Look under the hood for the emission class sticker.
Smog check station's machine in CA are programmed to handle both types.

You do not need to change anything before the inspection.

==== Side notes: You should check the service record for the last Catalytic converter,O2 sensors and EGR valve change.
Service interval for
Catalytic ~180,000 miles O2 ~150,000 miles EGR ~160,000 miles

If you can locate the last smog test (even from out of state) Check for the
CO NOx

If it had dexcool orange coolant in it, the heater core is probably plugged, pull off the hoses and blow air through it, the dexcool breaks down and clogs everything. I had this problem a month ago and the core was plugged badly. Hope this helps
