Question about 2008 Dodge Ram 3500

1 Answer

Fuel question while driving, my truck will shut itself off, especially during colder conditions. I will have to wait for awhile so it can cool off to be able to start the truck again. I have changed the fuel pump, pick-up pump, fuel regulator and fuel filter. I have also cleaned the fuel tank. Any suggestions?

SOURCE: i got gas leak coming from the fuel line

First off, what kind of vehicle do you have? I assume it is one that has an electric fuel pump in the gas tank, so that is what my answer will be geared to.
On the gas tank there are several lines. The most important ones for this conversation are the ones that deliver fuel to the engine and the one that returns the excess fuel back to the tank. They are usually different in size.
The larger one delivers the fuel and the smaller one returns the excess fuel back to the tank. Either one may be the culprit in this scenero. The tank is usually connected by a high pressure flexible fuel line to a stainless fuel line resembeling a brake line. At times this flex line may develope a leak for varrious reasons. It could be something rubbing against the line, it could be the crimped connection went bad and is leaking, etc. If it is your flex line, which it probably is there is a repair kit you can purchase to fix it. I have only been able to find this repair kit at NAPA. I've tried many auto parts stores and they are the only ones that carry it. The use of it is very simple actually. You find the leak in your line, which by the way is harder than it sounds and usually involves removing the gas tank. In which case you will need a special tool to disasemble the gas line from the tank. Once the leak is located you cut the line. You then have to place the remaining flex hose in boiling hot water for at least 10 seconds, which makes it soft and insert a splice fiting into it. When the line cools, it will shrink tight on the connector. You the do the same with the hose that came with the repair kit. Then do the same with the other end and install the fitting which connects to the gas tank. You should now be in business.
BTW. I have to do this very thing tomorrow.
Good Luck! and let me know if this helps you.

Then i think i'd be dumping some soapy water on the intake gaskets checking for leaks. ANd wiggle the **** out of all vacuum hoses. ( you probably did that) And if there aren't any, your cam could be tired. You got a tough one there. Hard to figure with a keyboard.

84 buick century just randomly shuts off while driving and wount start for awhile

It may be tough to troubleshoot if you can't duplicate the problem in the shop. Especially on a car that old. Someone will have to check for fuel pressure and spark when it fails to start and then go from there.
Could be a long list of things without knowing where to start looking.
My guess would be a relay or the ignition module get hot and then cool down. But that is only a guess.

2000 Mitsubishi diamante runs great till weather turned cold now having problems with idle dropping at lights and dying. New plugs and wires new battery cables and wires and good battery. Need opinion

  • This will happen to a lot of people as the weather begins to cool. I suggest making sure you get gas from a reputable service station for one. Just as important make sure to put a bottle of HEAT in your tank with every fill up(half a bottle for half a tank fill up on fuel).

  • What happens is there is already a certain amount of water no matter where you get fuel from as the storage tanks have a lot of water in them. That alone with the colder weather makes for rough starts and at times poor running conditions in the colder months because water freezes and makes the gas hard to pass through to the injectors and greatly effecting the engine firing properly. Heat will dry this water up and make your fuel flow much easier and burn a little better too.

  • Try this and you will notice a difference. Just about anyone will during the colder months.

  • Hope this helps.

Does the 94 fleetwood broughams 5.7 v8 carry a crankshaft position sensor and if so where is it located. the vehicle wont start after it has been driven until the engine cools. replaced...

Sounds like fuel starvation to me, especially if the scenario repeats itself! Take out the fuel pump fuse, and put an ammeter (which measures current) in series with the fuel pump circuit, and start the engine ... then watch the current reading. Does it start falling off? If so, the fuel pump is losing pressure, starving the engine for fuel!

Engine dies after driving awhile have to wait for awhile then will start back up? 1984 chevy p/u two wheel drive

sounds like your fuel pump is going out- Happens after a while- the pump will operate and after it gets hot it wont pump the proper pressure and the engine will stall out and be impossible to start until the pump cools then it starts up again

Aftter driving for a few minutes vehicle dies, after waiting awhile it will start back up. Acts like gas but changed fuel filter, almost as if it cools a bit about 15 miutes and starts up.

Sounds like a bad fuel pump. Check fuel pressure.
Also could be the fuel pressure regulator that supplies fuel pressure on start up before your fuel pump has a chance to build up fuel pressure.

Drive for about 45 min It stalls i wait 20 min it starts back up

There's a possibility that your fuel pump is going out. What's happening is that you can drive for the 45 min. and the pump gets hot and shuts itself off. After it cools off, it starts working again.
