SOURCE: The torque converter clutch solenoid curcuit stuck

If this is the case the torque convertor clutch solenoid will need replacement. You can buy some time by disconnecting it. The transmission will shift fine but the check engine light will stay on.

I have been getting the code p0740 it says something about the torque converter clutch circuit. it doesn't seem to be going into over drive. dose anyone have any suggestions I can try.


On some cars, there is a TCC solenoid in the transmission which can be replaced by removing the bottom pan. In some cars this solenoid can't be accessed without major disassembly.

2000 jagure gearbox coad came up and does not have any power


this is a easy one for me if you added any fluid via side fill bolt on the drivers side of the transmission , you add to much, if not most people will tell you it's your transmission..if you hear any noise coming from the front of your transmission were the transmission meets the engine.i will say it is your..... torque converter,not the transmission and do not let them tell you it is just to get more money out of you please, dealer keep telling me it was my transmission but it did not make since to me when my car was cold transmission worked fine till it got warm and a bad converter will take a few extra second longer to get in gear.... if drive does not work then you put it in 4th manually and the transmission drives good thru all gears ok then it is your torque converter. torque converter

P0740 Honda - Transmission Lock-Up Control System Fault Possible causes
- Low transmission fluid level
- Dirty transmission fluid
- Faulty torque converter clutch solenoid valve
- Torque converter clutch solenoid valve harness is open or shorted
- Torque converter clutch solenoid valve circuit poor electrical connection

Tech notes
On some Honda vehicles the P0740 code may be set by an overheating torque converter problem which is caused by an insufficient flow to the torque converter release circuit.

P0740 Honda Description
The torque converter clutch solenoid valve is activated, with the gear in D4, by the Transmission Control Module (TCM) in response to signals sent from the vehicle speed and the Engine Control Module (ECM). Lock-up piston operation will then be controlled. When the torque converter clutch solenoid valve is activated, the torque converter lockup clutch will engage creating a 1 to 1 RPM ratio between the transmission input shaft and the rotational speed of the torque converter.
Lock-up operation, however, is prohibited when A/T fluid temperature is too low.
When the accelerator pedal is depressed (less than 2/8) in lock-up condition, the engine speed should not change abruptly. If there is a big jump in engine speed, there is no lock-up.

I will start by pinout check current + to ECM and - ground there is many .
A Quad driver work like a big fuse d?pends some are resettable and other not reset(ECM defect) if it is so then you have to check all solenoid not short to ground before replacing ECM it will burn without checking the solenoid

When fixing codes start with first code first / it dos not always mean that the sensor is the fault ,it could be in the harness / the plug or the ground. and reference signal should be tested , but in this case you most likely could get away with replacing the cam sensor, that would be the Lest expensive and easiest to start with,to git to it you will have to remove the alternator hope this is help full, the other code suggest that it could be the crank sensor , that and the plug for it does fail quite often but first things first feel free to ask if you should have any further questions , Thank you ,
