may be the oil level in the torque converter is too low a sign would be that extra revs are needed before drive starts to take up load

If this is the case the torque convertor clutch solenoid will need replacement. You can buy some time by disconnecting it. The transmission will shift fine but the check engine light will stay on.

THE TCC SOLENOID LOCATED ON THE VALVE BODY. IF YOU HAVE RWD TCC SOLENOID BOTTOM PAN VALVE BODY IF YOU HAVE FWD VECHICLE TCC SOLENOID IN THE SIDE PAN VALVE BODY. RWD IS REAR WHEEL DRIVE AND FWD IS FRONT WHEEL DRIVE.
