SOURCE: 2003 DODGE NEON IDLES OK

I have a 2003 Neon SXT. It does not have a distributor cap. Sparkplug wires are to be change at about 45,000 miles as they build up current resistance with use.

As Guru stated change your air filter. It may be so dirty that not enough air is getting in for complete combustion. Hope you can solve your problem.

Dodge caravan dies when in gear

Vacuum leaks. ( hissing noise around the engine). Tune up (plugs and wires). clean the throttle body(inside of it). All these can cause rough idle. The dieing can be from transmission problems. Can you rev the van up and keep it running while in gear? Or does it die then too? You can replace the solenoid pack on the outside of the transmission for around $250, if you do it yourself. If you do this, DO NOT get any dirt in the holes of the transmission where the solenoid pack sets. Clean it well before you remove the old pack.

2008 Sprinter stalls at idle when in gear

2506 PCM/ECM Power input signal range/performance
110 IAT Intake Air Temp sensor 1 circuit
104 MAP/ Baro sensor low input
You probably did do some damage by not isolating the engine and controls out before the repairs/mods were started.

Our 1995 Dodge caravan starts fine dies.

Do the following

Here are the most common causes of idle surge, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake

I have a 97 dodge caravan that runs good but will die when put into gear.

Sounds like there could be a problem with the idle air control valve, the computer adjusts the idle air control valve with engine load, when you put the car into gear theres a load on the engine the computer has to compensate for the extra load on the engine so what it does it it retracts the pintle valve on the idle air control to allow more air to bypass the throttle plate thus allowing the engine to idle when you place it into gear, i would take out the valve and clean it, it could be carboned up and sticking if that doesnt work i would try and obtain one from a salvage yard, its the cheaper way to go if your on a budget. If the car has a check engine light on have it scanned for trouble codes before you do anything autozone scans the computer for free....

2001 dodge caravan turns off when put into gear

U have a dirty automatic idle speed control valve, do the following to clean it.

get a can of intake cleaner (ABOUT $5.00) from any local auto parts store like NAPA or Carquest, do not use carburetor spray, intake cleaner only or u will damage the Teflon coating inside the throttle valve and air bypass valve, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

VAN SOUNDS LIKE ITS TRYING TO START AFTER I SHUT IT OFF

this is what we call "dieseling"
it is the engine running WITHOUT spark plugs

This happens when you have leaking injectors and carbon build up in the engine (pistons/valves)

try shutting off the engine while in park
keep your foot on the brake because you might find the engine has enough power to actually move the van

keep us posted
