The sensors that connect to the air bags are either malfunctioning or you do indeed have a slow leak. The rear sway stabilizers could be out and they are unrelated to the airbags. Unless you have replaced the airbags before, they are 15 years old and more than likely have cracking and tearing in the rubber boots. Autozone has twin Duralast coil springs with 4 rubber boots that replace the airbags for 100 bucks. They are the only place that has them this cheap and work as well as any high dollar replacements. They are just as smooth as airbags and more reliable. It could take three strong grown men to do it yourself ( that's what I did) unless you have a tall needle jack and a way to mount it to the rear end and under body to get the lift you need to set the coils in.

If they fill up when the car is running you're ok. If they stay low all the time, have them checked.

SOURCE: 1996 lincon town pump works and cuts off before airing up

I am new at the Air Suspension issue myself. My 96 is beginning to have some issues. But, have you had the Height Leveling sensor above the rear axle checked out? The position of this sensors 'arm' is what tells the system to turn on and off the Air Compressor in order to maintain a level ride height. From what I have read. these sensors wear out. A faulty sensor could be telling the compressor to kick off to soon.

On my '98 Lincoln Town Car, on the rear, air bag levelers, when do I need to replace them?

when your ride compressor runs and the car still wont raise up.this means a major leak. if it levels when the key is on or engine running but lowers again while not on, it means a slower leak. how fast it goes down will show you how big the leak is. if you are strapped for cash you can usually get by replacing only one bag, cause the leak is usually on one side, from a rock or debris caught between bag and housing.but if you can replace both to be sure of level riding for a good while.

My licoln navigator front suspension is not working..stays deflated

First, you should have a warning light telling you it is not working. There is a switch for the air suspension underneath the glovebox-right hand side or in the rear hatch area on the left panel..make sure it's on. If all 4 air bags are deflated it could mean the air pump or actuator is malfunctioning.

Suspension air compressor

If your compressor is running all the time, it is almost certain that you have a leak. It could be either in the lines going to the rear air bags, or the air bags themselves. Simplest way to find a leak, is to get a spray bottle with soapy water, make sure the suspension is aired up, and spray the lines starting from the compressor. Work all the way back to the bags, now when you get the bags nice and soapy then bounce the rear of the truck up and down. If their are any leaks the soapy water will bubble up showing you wear the leak it.
That is how i would start.

If its a bigger leak the rear air bags wont stay aired up, if its a small leak, then the air compressor will be running all the time to keep the truck aired up.

Remember, when you are driving, the compressor is constantly working to keep the rear bags at the proper height, even more so on rough roads.
