Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

SOURCE: Bought a Smart car for

right firstly look around the car for a 4 figure number written down somewhere like the sun visor or under the boot mat ,anywhere in fact that might not appear obvious. If that turn anything up then remove the radio and look for the radio make and the radio serial number then if i have the right code generator for that model i can find the number from that.Failing which go back to dealer with the chassis number and they will get the number.Sometimes someone may have had the same problem and when you pull the radio out its written on the radio case.Common problem which is why i will write the radio code on the back of the sun visor when i have fitted a new battery or done a repair that has necessitated disconnecting the battery.Their is no magic secret of holding this button in and press that whilst holding the aerial and doing a jig all at the same time

SOURCE: radio is in safe mode

IMPORTANT NOTE:
You must have the security anti-theft code for your VW radio from the car manufacturer, or from a VW dealer!

You can find the radio code at: http://www.radio-code.co.uk/

The sequence of VW radio programming is:
1. Push simultaneous "SCAN" and "RDS" keys until on the screen will appear "1000" displayed.
2. Release keys. No more push on "SCAN" and "RDS" keys because otherwise number "1000" will be considered as first safe code attempt.
For example: we have the security code "5079". Then:
3. By the no.# 1 key you will set up the first safe code digit. Push 5 times on the no.# 1 button. The "5" number will be setted.
4. By the no.# 2 key you will set up the second safe code digit. Push 10 times on the no.# 2 button. The "0" number will be setted.
5. By the no.# 3 key you will set up the third safe code digit. Push 7 times on the no.# 3 button. The "7" number will be setted.
6. By the no.# 4 key you will set up the four-th safe code digit. Push 9 times on the no.# 4 button. The "9" number will be setted.
7. Then push again simultaneous "SCAN" and "RDS" keys for confirm this safe code. On the screen will be displayed "SAFE" notice. Release keys! For few seconds a radio frequence will be displayed.

The radio is now ready for use!

The radio stays in "safe" mode. The car battery is brand new, and no fuses are blown. What else could cause this?

whenever you disconnect the battery, the radio will need a code fed into it,this is available from your local dealer for a charge in the USA but NOT anywhere else, the first owner may have written a 4 digit code in the service book(fat chance)if you are outside USA specialist dealers can recode your radio(at a cost)but i have found its better to buy a new radio with a aux input for mp3.(matter of choice.)but cos i live in England, labour rates are £85 per hour.cd/ radio costs £45 fitted.please tell all your friends re the radio code, could cost them a lot of inconvenience/money.especially if a "friend"replaces thier radio...........

MY RADIO IS IN SAFE MODE I NEED TURN ON MY RADIO PLEASE HELPME

Safe Mode? Is this the original radio that came with the care? Is this the anti theft system? Did you have to disconnect the battery at some point in time? If so.....check you owner's manual to see if they tell you how to reset it. You can call a dealer's service department and if they feel helpful they can look up the code if one is required. You will need the vehicle ID number if the radio is original to the car or the radio serial number if not original to car.

Safe mode on 2001 vw beetle- how do I find my code?

If you're the original owner it should be in the radio part of the owners manual which is in a adhesive backed label form placed by the sales rep. Also comes in one if the plastic key tags. If all else fails remove your spare tire there should be a label with all your vehicles info.
