Loud knocking 95 ford mustang 3.8 when i start my car it makes a loud knocking noise and does not go away

Hey Tim , whether an engine "knocks" or "ticks" is a BIG difference!! Valves usually tick. Rods and bearings knock,,, I would consult a qualified professional and get their opinion..make sure you have PLENTY of oil...

Check your drive shaft U joint bearings.

1. Brake booster diaphragm may be torn.
2. Tie rod ends may be failing.
3. Likely lifter noise. Change to better oil and oil filter.
4. Hood stops need adjusting.

You need a mechanic.

forget the boyfriend and take it to an accredited service center for a proper diagnosis and quote
knocks are big ends or mains , and ticks are hydraulic followers
all could be a bad cam but a proper diagnosis will make sure

your description is not clear. the throwout and pilot bearing only work when the pedal is depressed. and dont make knocking noises, so rule that out. If the noise is when the car is moving and in gear, the trans maybe bad. makes noise in all gears at 2200 rpm? trans needs to come apart.

have your alternator tested. if you have a speaker system, check the wiring and grounds. check the power cable and connection to the alternator.

Do you have an Oil Pressure gauge? If not you may want o have one installed (even temporarily). After the vehicle sits overnight, start it and see how long it takes to get pressure. If it is the same amount of time that the engine knocks, then you may want to start looking for another engine. If oil pressure is okay, you might have a bad wrist pin, which can make noise for years without any other problems. Now if the noise is a "ticking" then.............

sound like your UPPER control arm bushings are worn out.....they can be lubed with a aftermarket kit installed to the zerk fittings.....GL

Need to check for any loose belts first .

check the crankshaft damper is not loose or worn.Main bearings could have worn out.Drain oil and check for traces of metal.
