I have checked the data sheet and I have no reference for the code you have given. All I can tell you is that it could be a poor or no connection to the air heater element or a wiring harness fault near the air intake air pipe.

SOURCE: what does code p2189 and p2187 mean on kia sadona

code p2189 and p2187 = air/fuel mixture too lean on both cylinder banks which in turn generates excessive emissions = failed inspection.
What can cause a lean mixture:
- Incorrect main charge signal
- Intake air system leaking
- Fuel pressure too low
- Volume supply of fuel pump too low
- Mechanical fault in injectors
- PCV valve leaks
- Leaks in exhaust system
- EVAP canister purge valve mechanically faulty (hangs open)
All these must be checked.

SOURCE: Hello, My 2002 kia keeps

That is part of the Antitheft system. Either you had a dead battery and had to jump start your car or the battery was disconnected for one reason or another. The only way to get your radio unlocked is to take the car to a Kia dealer. Make sure you have your photo ID and proof of registration with you. They will only unlock a radio for the registered owner of the vehicle. This is to keep someone from stealing your radio and using it in their car.

P2187 code on 2006 sonata v6

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle '' []).push({});

P2187 System Too Lean at Idle (Bank 1) DTC
OBD-II Trouble Code Technical Description
Article byDon BowmanASE Certified Automotive TechSystem Too Lean at Idle (Bank 1)
What does that mean?
This diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is a generic powertrain code. It is considered generic because it applies to all makes and models of vehicles (1996-newer), although specific repair steps may be slightly different depending on the model.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle '' []).push({});
This is an ambiguous code in of itself. It can be a tough code to crack without a diagnostic strategy. During the last two starts, the engine management computer has recognized a problem with the fuel mixture at an idle.
It appears that the fuel mixture is too lean (too much air and not enough fuel) at an idle. If you have a 4 cylinder engine the "Bank 1" is meaningless, however, if you have a 6 or 8 cylinder engine, Bank 1 will be on the side with the number one cylinder. Code P2189 is the same code but for Bank #2.
There is a laundry list of components that could cause this scenario. For the most part the diagnostic procedure is not difficult -- just time consuming, unless it is one of the first items checked. The strategy dictates that the driveability problems are observed and noted, then start with the most commonly found problems and progress from there.
Symptoms
With the wide range of possibilities, the problems listed may and may not be present. But, here is where it is important to pay particular attention to the symptoms observed and make a note as to what and when symptoms appear for diagnostic strategy.
Vehicle has a miss at an idle
Hard to start, especially when hot
Very irregular idle
Additional codes to pinpoint cause of original P2187 code
Whistling noises
Lower turbo boost numbers
Fuel smell
Potential Causes of P2187 DTC
Faulty O2 sensor (front)
Faulty gas cap seal
Leaky or loose oil filler cap
Air leaking into the intake manifold downstream from the Mass Airflow sensor due to the manifold itself, vacuum hoses off or cracked, leak MAP sensor, Leak at turbo bypass or it's stuck open, power brake booster hose, or a leak in the EVAP system hoses.
Faulty MAP sensor
EVAP canister purge valve
Fuel injector leak
Fuel pressure regulator faulty
Leaks in the exhaust system
Faulty variable camshaft timing
Faulty ECM (engine management computer)
Faulty O2 preheater (front)
Clogged fuel filter
Fuel pump wearing out and producing low pressure.
Faulty mass air flow sensor
Diagnostic / Repair Steps
Your strategy for locating this problem begins with a test drive and observation of any symptoms. The next step is to use a code scanner (available at any auto parts store) and pulling any additional codes.
The computer has set a code P2187 stating that the fuel mixture is lean at an idle. This is the main code, however, any component malfunctioning within this loop that has the potential to cause a lean mixture will also be set in code.
If the test drive doesn't produce any symptoms it is possible that it is not a real code. In other words, the fuel mixture is not lean and that the computer or oxygen sensor is responsible for setting the code.
Every vehicle has a minimum of two oxygen sensors -- one in front of the catalytic converter and one after the converter. These sensors signal the amount of free oxygen left in the exhaust after ignition, which determines the fuel ratio. The front sensor is primarily responsible for the mixture, the second sensor behind the exhaust is used for comparison to the front sensor to determine if the converter is working properly.
If a rough idle is present or one of the other symptoms, begin the process with the most likely cause first. Either unmetered air is entering the intake manifold or there is a lack of fuel pressure:
Check the fuel cap for cracks and sealing and function
Lift the hood and make sure the oil filler cap is tight
If additional codes were present begin with inspecting them first
Look for air leaks starting at the mass airflow sensor. Check the hose or connection between the sensor and the intake manifold all the way to the manifold for cracks or loose connections. Check all vacuum hoses carefully attached to the intake manifold, to include the one to the vacuum brake booster. Check the hose to the MAP sensor and all hoses to the turbo if so equipped.
With the engine running, using a can of carburetor cleaner and spray a small mist around the base of the intake manifold and where the two halves meet if it is a two piece. Spray around the base of the EGR for leaks into the manifold. The rpm will increase if a leak is located.
Check the PCV valve and hose for leaks.
Inspect the fuel injectors for external fuel leaks
Inspect the fuel pressure regulator by pulling off the vacuum hose and shaking it to see if fuel is present. If so replace it.
Shut the engine down and install a fuel pressure tester on the schrader valve on the fuel supply rail to the injectors. Start the engine and note the fuel pressure at an idle and once again at 2500 rpm. Compare these figures with the desired fuel pressure found online for your vehicle. If out of range in volume or pressure replace the pump or filter.
The remainder of components need to be inspected by a service facility that has a Tech 2 scanner and programmer.

Have a 2000 Kia Sportage with following codes P0116, P0453, pending p1309.

I would probably clear the codes and drive it to see what if any codes come back again.
Code 116 is for the coolant temp sensor being below standard, meaning the sensor is telling the computer the engine is cold when it should be warmed up. Could be a faulty sensor or the engine is low on coolant or it really is cold and the thermostat is faulty.
Code 453 is for the EVAP system pressure sensor being high - the computer vents the gas tank while you are driving and the sensor detected a high pressure in the tank or the vent system.
Code 1309 is for a sensor called the Chassis Accelerator Sensor - it detects motion in the vehicle. It is usually mounted somewhere in the engine compartment.

The other codes P2189PD & P2187PD are pending codes.. Meaning the car will have to recheck the errors before it calls it an error and sets the engine light on. They are the same codes as the others just the PD at the end means pending.

Engine code P2187 pops up. Also had miss in cyl 1 but resolved by changing long overdue plugs. Now P2187 comes on again (Lien at idle) Any suggestions before I bring it in. Vehicle has 145K miles. Runs...

P2187 = "system too lean at idle, bank 1"

The problem is in the bank of cylinders that includes cylinder 1. Running too lean at idle can often be caused by an air leak between the mass air flow sensor and the throttle body, a leaky intake manifold gasket, or some other vacuum leak. "False air" is downstream of the MAF sensor so it is not measured. The computer only attempts to add the correct amount of fuel to air that it knows about. It will attempt to compensate for lean mixtures but at a certain point, it will turn on the check engine light.

The miss that you had on cylinder one was caused by two things; the false air leaning out the mixture and a worn plug. You replaced the plug and now that new spark plug is able to fire the lean mixture. But the false air remains to be corrected. Eventually, you'll have misfiring again.

The check eng light does not always come on when theres an issue. Take it and have it scanned anyway, I bet there is a code stored, Also ask them to check Pending codes. Pending codes are what the computer has noticed a possible concern and is watching That system, Pending codes can be saviours when diagnosing a hard to find issue

SOURCE: Kia Technician Times
TITLE: A/T Inhibitor Switch
APPLIES TO: 95-00 Sephia
SERVICE TIP:
CONDITION
Some 1995 thru 2000 Sephia Automatic Transmission equipped vehicles may exhibit the following inhibitor switch concerns: - The vehicle may not start intermittently in park or neutral. - The vehicle TCU may intermittently lose the gear position signal from the inhibitor switch and go into failsafe mode (third gear). If the inhibitor switch signal returns while driving, the TCU will return to normal transmission control. The vehicle will then upshift or downshift abruptly depending on vehicle speed. - The TCU will set a pending OBDII code and then after two key cycles, the MIL light will come on and the O/D light will flash.
CAUSE
Corrosion/dirt on the inhibitor switch connector terminals or internal contacts.
CORRECTIVE ACTION Replace the inhibitor switch with P/N KFW35-21-444 and carefully adjust per procedures in the applicable service manual.
Note: The 1998-2000 Sephia Service Manual has an error on page 42-104 inhibitor switch inspection/adjustment. The connector terminal chart should show terminals 5 and 7 having continuity in neutral. The correct inhibitor switch terminal locations are shown below.

KIa Mentor engine light

if the light came on it could be a fluid level warning. In most models today they don't have a light or gauge for the levels. I would check this first. you mention a hesitation, this could be as simple as changing the fuel filter or a faulty O2 sensor. Best bet is ti have a diagnostic scan done to find out if there is an active code present in your ECM.please rate this.....thanks
