Clicking under dash

What components under the dash can cause a clicking noise. It does it upon starting but not all the time. I just had a new battery installed. It only last for maybe 15-20 seconds then quits making noise. It will be fine for weeks then does it again.

SOURCE: 98 ford windstar has clicking noise under dash and won't start

The clicking noise is most likly the starter solinoid cycling in and out. This is due to low battery voltage. charge the battery, then have the battery and charging system tested. Some auto supply stores will do this for free for you in the hopes of selling parts

good luck

Before you go changing out the starter check for a burnt out fusible link going to the starter it will look like a wire but acts as a fuse and they burn in two just like a fuse. The symptoms you just describe are those of a burnt fusible link.

You said you tightened the battery cables, did you check the other end of the negative where it bolts to the engine. When you tightened the cables you also used a battery brush and cleaned the posts and ends?

My 2003 Denali won't start I turn the key and just get a fast clicking noise good battery new starter and all power works

Where's the clicking noise coming from ? Under the dash , under the hood in the engine compartment ? Do starter circuit voltage drop test ! When the key is in start position is there constant B+ voltage at the 10 amp crank fuse in the under hood fuse box ? This is an input to the PCM - engine computer to energize the starter relay ! Starter Voltage Drop The battery is good , starter is new ,what about the cables ? watch this video on testing starter circuit !

What is causing clicking noise under dash?

recently began - hear the "clicking noise" upon startup for about 60 secs - seems to be from the AC/Heater so I turn it off and on. while the noise is "clicking" air flow is greatly impared. Not liking what I read here as sounds like it is going to be yet another expensive repair from what I though was a High Quality Automobile - Mecedes - NOT! just a very expensive automobile to maintain and OFTEN! very disappointed!

In my experience with problems similar to this, when nothing makes any sense at all, it has most often been a ground that was left off or pulled loose by accident.

some times you can find these by getting a jumper wire and grounding one end, and touching the other end to the wiring harness ground points.

A ground is common to many electrical components under the dash. this is why a loose ground could affect so many different things at the same time.

Hope this helps

My 2002 honda civic has a steady clicking noise that goes faster on acceleration. The noise is audible though just when idling as well. Any ideas?

Needs more oil or you spun a bearing. Also could knocking lifter. Try some engine restore if your oil is at the proper level. If that doesnt work it will be spun bearing or bad rocker. Have it checked out by local mechanic to be for certain.

This sounds like you may be fighting more than one problem at a time.
First, I would replace the main relay (often located near the fuse panel under the dash).
Next, I would check all battery connections and even though the battery is relatively new, you probably should have it load tested.
