2005 ford explorer headligts flash


This is caused by a faulty main headlight switch and most likely burned wiring connectors at the switch. If the harness to the switch is heat damaged you must buy a repair connector from Ford and splice it on to the old harness (1 wire at a time! solder and use heat shrink tubing)

Courtesy lights stay on all the time, only go out by pulling fuse


do you have the light switch on? also there is a little switch on the door that gets pressed when you close it this part could be broken causing the car to think the door has been left open thus leaving on the courtesy lights

if the switch is broken there would be little point in just replacing the lever
new switches will come with a new lever

there should be a seperate adjustment for hot water and for central heating, if they are on timer that is. If you are switching on at the boiler / combi check for the seperate switches

The power window switch on front passenger door "sunk" into the door panel


Either the switch has broken off its lugs to hold it into place or the panel that it sits in has broken. You will probably have to strip some of the door or the panel the switch sits in to get the switch back. Once you have determined what has broken off, go to a wrecker or a Dealer and buy a new part. There will be wiring on the back of that switch. If the connections are single wires, make close note of what wire goes where. If its a plastic multiplug connection, they will usually only fit one way.

There is a safety switch on top of the brake pedal lever or clutch lever which is suppose to prevent lurching on start-ups. It is suppose to insure that the Brake pedal is pushed OR the clutch is down before the engine will crank.

The Ignition switch is interrupted by the above cutout switches. But when Ignition is turned on, the Glow plug timer should click and cycle if Power Relay is giving it juice. So if you do not hear that type of clicking, the glow plugs will stay cold.

I would check to see if power is going to the Power Relay above the glow plug timer, and if it is getting power, does the Power Relay send it to the Timer? The starting circuit is more involved in a Diesel because the fuel must be atomized by heating it for initial starts. But you must be getting this process if jumping the solenoid results in the engine starting.

Therefore the big test is whether the small wire to the starter solenoid is dead when a foot is pressing the Brake or clutch pedal when the Ignition key is in the STARTER position.

So either your Ignition switch is bad at the STARTER terminal position or the signal is interrupted by the anti-lurch Interlock switch. It is quite common for problems with this switch being hit and broken or displaced by the Drivers' feet.

There was also no indication of whether you jumped the solenoid on a warm engine which could atomize the fuel by compression or a very cold engine which needed the glow plugs to work.

Brake light switch not working


If you press the brake pedal and the rear lights don't work, It can be a number of things. Blown bulbs, Blown fuse or a broken circuit. The broken circuit could be a cable or connection failed, a broken switch or a bad earth. The fact that both lights don't work would indicate the problem is most likely to be a fuse or a switch. Just because you can hear the switch click, doesn't mean it is working. Replacement of a brake switch should only take a novice mechanic about 30 minutes.
