What year, make, model vehicle? If it has a cap and rotor. I would replace them along with wires and sparkplugs.

How do I get the spark plugs out of my 1998 ford escort to replace with new ones? Also where does the pcp Valve go?


With you hood open and you are standing in front of the car sparkplug wires need to be removed,i suggest you remove them one at a time, under each wire the sparkplug is threaded into the cylinder head,using a 5/8 sparkplug socket remove the sparkplug and replace it with new properly gapped sparkplug.Note:if you remove all sparkplug wires at once the factory wires are generally numbered 1 2 3 4 the sparkplug closesed to the passenger fender is #1 and the one clossesed to the driver's fender is #4.Standing in front of vehicle the PCV Valve is located between #3 and #4 on the backside(intake side) of the engine fitted down into a rubber hose

Missing on the third cylinder. Were is that sparkplug located? 2002 ford escape.


Is it a V6? For a V6 if you are standing in front of the car it will be on the far right on the firewall side of the engine. You will have to remove the plastic engine cover and the intake manifold to get to it. If it were on the front side of the engine you would only have to remove the plastic cover. Since there is a good bit of work involved removing the manifold, I would suggest that you go ahead and replace all of the sparkplugs and consider replacing the coil for the one cylinder also. I have a 2001 Mazda Tribute, which is basically the same vehicle. Mine started running rough so I decided to replace all the sparkplugs. After replacing the sparkplugs it continued to run rough. I took it to a shop and got it scanned (no cost for the scan). The scan showed the coil on the 3rd cylinder was bad. So I wound up having to pull the manifold off again to replace the coil :(
The first time it took me 1-1/2 hours to do the plugs, second time 1 hour to do the coil. Hope this helps.

Ignition Distributor location


There is no cap and rotor, as the vehicles igntion system is DIS (digital ignition system). The recommended tune-up on these motors require sparkplug and coil replacement. The coil type in this vehicle is COPs (coil over plugs). Usually moist and oxidation develope on the sparkplug chamber walls from faulty or worn coil boots. This causes the coil to short, they must be replaced at 75,000 miles at the same time the sparkplugs are replaced. Typical symtoms are: Vehicle stalls (restarts and runs normal), intermitted jerks/sputter while driving, misfires, rough idle, severe power loss. Hopefully this helps

Check your spark plugs and wires yourself. Remove one sparkplug at a time from the engine block, plug the wire back on, place the sparkplug on the engine or vehicle body so that the outer thread of the sparkplug would touch the body, or engine (GND) you can secure it with a cellotape or so. Turn the ignition key to the START position and when starter is spinning wach for high voltage sparks appearing between the body,engine or gasket and the tiny black end of the sparkplug called electrode. If there's a sparks, than it's fine, othervise try to get one working sparkplug and to retest this. If now it works then your sparkplugs needs to be replaced. Othervise check the resistance of the high voltage coil primary windings. this should be something between 0.2 and 10 ohms, when coil is disconnected from vehicles wiring. I just do nts remember the exact figure. If multimeter doesn't show anything, replace the coil, otherwise check if the supply current is flowing to the coil plug when IGN is ON. If it's fine then check the COM line at the same plug, using analog muldimeter is the easiest and not harmfull way to do this. If COM isn't comming You might need to go deeper into ECU, or even to replace it. If COM is fine then it would identfy that coil itself is faulty.
