Question about 1996 Pontiac Trans Sport
Both the driver's side and passenger side outside door handles on my 1996 Trans Sport have broke. I can't get the door completely apart. The started taking off the door panel and removed the lower part without much fuss. But the upper half where the inside handle is is still attached. I removed 3 screws from it, but the seems to be attached to a plastic border around the window. I tried just pulling it out around the window, but I ended up just cracking the plastic. How do I remove the the panel? Preferably without anymore damage.
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

I hope you're talking about the interior trim door panel and not the metal structure of the door. Be forwarned that a special body rivet tool is required. You can not get this tool at your local hardware or autoparts store. Also, you will most likely need to adjust the window once the replacement is made. If you are unsure how to do this, you may be better off taking it to a shop.
To remove the panel, you must remove the manual door lock slide and the screw behind the door handle. Remove the panel that contains the window/lock/mirror controls, then remove the screw under the panel. There should be a screw in the door map pocket. Carefully pry the push fasteners from around the edges of the panel from the door. The panel should push straight up. Be careful with the door handle and the wires for the lock/window/mirror controls and speaker.
The window motor and regulator must be removed as a unit. Drill out the rivets that hold the assembly. Disconnect the wire to the window motor. Remove the bolts to the regulator channels. Use one hand to support the glass while you remove the assembly.
You can not get a copy of the dealer service manual procedure unless you know someone or buy a similar manual. It would be cheaper to pay someone to replace your window motor!
R/R the motor on the regulator is easy. Once you change out the motor, replace the motor/regulator assembly into the door and window. Don't forget to connect the wire! Replace the rivets and adjust the window. Replace the door panel, making sure each hook and the door handle and manual lock rod line up.
Good luck and hope this helps.

Remove any bolts/screws you can see then get a plastic crowbar and pry it off. Should have little plastic push pins holding it to door. Make sure you remove all screws though.

SOURCE: Remove window crank
Remove wire circlip at the backside of the handle. Can usually be pulled loose w/a pair of needlenosed pliers by pushing in slightly on door panel and pull the rounded end of clip w/the pliers (hemostat pliers work great if you have some).

Your lock mechanism has become jammed in the closed position, best have a boddy shop or GM garage fix it, they have the tools to do it without damaging the car.
