I really have no idea what you are talking about. If you mean the rotor bug, with your timing marks all lined up with the engine at TDC on the compression stroke I would certainly home it would be pointing at the number 1 plug wire.

How to change a distributor on a 1990 toyota tercel and maybe timing chain


I doubt you machine has a timing chain, it will be a belt. To replace a timing chain means just about a full engine tear down. To replace the distributor. Place the engine at TDC and mark the position of the distributor rotor, also line a fixed mark on the old distributor with a position on the engine. Do not turn the engine at all. Remove the old distributor and install the new one aligning the body marks and ensuring that the rotor is pointing in exactly the same position. Once all the wires are back and the cap is replaced it should hardly be necessary to re-time the engine.

Make Shure Your Distributor T it on position 1 and from your Cam shaft make shure the natch is Top Position with little Triagle..Then Make shure you belt it correcly positioning on the bottom Sproket ..Then position top belt then slowly adjust the belt
till is stay on all the sproket adjust level Turn Slowly Engine conplete turn... then Check Cylender 1 for top piston corresponding to Distributor.. The T as to be aligned to pin 1 According Piston 1 for Ignition Start innitial Order 1-6-3-5-2-4

How to replace a water pump on a 1995 bmw 318is


  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Drain the cooling system.
  2. Remove the distributor cap and rotor. Remove the rotor adapter, the dust shield and the distributor housing.
  3. Remove the fan. The fan must be held stationary with tool 11 5 030 or some sort of flat blade cut to fit over the hub and drilled to fit over 2 of the studs on the front of the pulley. Remove the fan coupling nut; left hand thread-turn clockwise to remove.
  4. Remove the belt and pulley.
  5. Remove the rubber guard and distributor and or upper timing belt cover.
  6. Compress the timing tensioner spring and clamp pin with the proper tool.

Observe the installed position of the tensioner spring pin on the water pump housing for reinstallation purposes.
  1. Remove the water hoses, remove the 3 water pump bolts and remove the pump.

To install:
  1. Clean the gasket surfaces and use a new gasket.
  2. Install the water pump in position. Note the position of the tensioner spring pin. Torque M8 bolts to 16-17 ft. lbs. (20-24 Nm) and M6 bolts to 6-7 ft. lbs. (8-10 Nm). Connect the hoses.
  3. Release the tensioner from the holding pin. Install the upper timing cover. Install the pulley and tighten the bolts to 6-7 ft. lbs. (8-10 Nm). Install the belt and tighten.
  4. Install the fan, distributor housing and dust shield. Tighten the rotor adapter to 39-47 ft. lbs. (55-65 Nm). Install the rotor, O-ring and cap.
  5. Add coolant and bleed

How to changing a timing belt on a 2000 ford focus SE


FOR A 2.0 SPI ENGINE:
Removal
  1. Remove the accessory drive belt.
  2. Detach the coolant expansion tank.
  3. Remove the bolt and position the expansion tank to one side. Detach the power steering reservoir and position to one side.
  4. Remove the right-hand front wheel and tire.
  5. Remove the crankshaft pulley/vibration damper.
  6. Lower the vehicle. Disconnect the ignition wires from the spark plugs.
  7. Remove the two ignition wire separators from the valve cover.
  8. Remove the spark plugs. Place a jack with a wooden block under the oil pan and raise slowly until the front engine mounting is free from strain.
  9. Remove the engine front mounting. Remove the timing belt cover.
  10. Remove the engine front mounting bracket. Align the timing marks.
  11. Remove the timing belt. Use an 8 mm Allen wrench and turn counter clockwise 1/4 turn.
  12. Insert a 3 mm (1/8 inch) drill bit to lock the timing belt tensioner in place.
  13. Remove the timing belt.

Installation
  1. Check the alignment of the timing mark on the crankshaft timing belt pulley.
  2. Check the alignment of the timing mark on the camshaft timing belt pulley.
  3. Install the timing belt. Install the timing belt over the pulleys in a counter clockwise direction starting at the crankshaft.
  4. Keep the belt span from the crankshaft to the camshaft tight while installing the timing belt over the camshaft.
  5. Remove the 3 mm (1/8 inch) drill bit to release the timing belt tensioner.
  6. Turn the crankshaft at least two turns in clockwise direction to TDC position for cylinder one.
  7. Check the alignment of the timing marks.
  8. If the alignment is not correct repeat the previous steps. Install the engine front mounting bracket. Install the timing belt cover.
  9. Install the engine front mounting. Remove the jack. Install the spark plugs.
  10. Push on the spark plug connector until it engages.
  11. Raise and support the vehicle. Install the crankshaft pulley/vibration damper.
  12. Position the drive belt on the crankshaft pulley.
  13. Install the right-hand front wheel and tire.
  14. Install the power steering reservoir.
  15. Install the coolant expansion tank. Install the accessory drive belt.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the primary lead from the terminal post at the side of the distributor.

The wire connector will contain a special conductive grease. Do not remove it. The same grease will also be found on the metal parts of the rotor.
  1. Disconnect the vacuum line if there is one.
  2. Remove the two distributor cap retaining hooks or screws and remove the distributor cap.
  3. Note the position of the rotor in relation to the base. Scribe a mark on the base of the distributor and on the engine block to facilitate reinstallation. Align the marks with the direction the metal tip of the rotor is pointing.
  4. Remove the bolt that holds the distributor to the engine.
  5. Lift the distributor assembly from the engine.

To install, if engine was not disturbed:
  1. Insert the distributor shaft and assembly into the engine. Line up the mark on the distributor and the one on the engine with the metal tip of the rotor. Make sure that the vacuum advance diaphragm is pointed in the same direction as it was pointed originally. This will be done automatically if the marks on the engine and the distributor are line up with the rotor.
  2. Install the distributor hold-down bolt and clamp. Leave the screw loose enough so that you can move the distributor with heavy hand pressure.
  3. Connect the primary wire to the distributor side of the coil. Install the distributor cap on the distributor housing. Secure the distributor cap with the spring clips or the screw type retainers, whichever is used.
  4. Install the spark plug wires. Make sure that the wires are pressed all of the way into the top of the distributor cap and firmly onto the spark plugs.

If the engine was turned while the distributor was removed, or if the marks were not drawn, it will be necessary to initially time the engine. Follow the procedure below.
To install, if engine was disturbed:
  1. Rotate the engine until the No.1 piston is at TDC compression.
  2. Using a flat bladed screwdriver, in the distributor hole, rotate the oil pump gear so that the slot in the oil pump shaft is slightly past the 3:00 o'clock position, relative to the length of the engine block.
  3. With the distributor cap removed, install the distributor with the rotor at the 5:00 o'clock position, relative to the oil pump gear shaft slot. When the distributor is completely in place, the rotor should be at the 6:00 o'clock position. If not, remove the distributor and perform the entire procedure again.
  4. Tighten the lockbolt.

The Isuzu is a strange animal-when you do the timing belt you set it with #1 TDC "BUT" the distributor is timed with TDC #4 I found this the hard way and finally had to buy a cd with the procedures on it. Send me an e-mail address and I will forward the associated pictures &

TIMING BELT & SPROCKETS R & I
NOTE: Some procedures may differ slightly due to engine
construction.
Removal
1) Remove all necessary air ducts. Position No. 4 piston at
TDC of compression stroke. Align timing marks. See Fig. 2. Remove fan
and fan shroud. Remove belts. If necessary, remove radiator and
splashguard.
2) Prevent engine from rotating and remove crankshaft timing
pulley retaining bolt. Remove upper and lower timing belt covers.
Remove spring from tension pulley. Loosen adjusting bolt and move
pulley toward water pump. Remove timing belt.
CAUTION: Ensure pistons are at TDC when rotating camshaft or damage
may result.
Inspection
1) Handle timing belt carefully. Avoid twisting or kinking
belt. Do not allow belt to become contaminated by water, oil, dirt or
other contaminates. Inspect belt for cracks or damage. If necessary,
replace.
2) Measure tension pulley spring length and force. Spring
length should not exceed 2.76" (70.2 mm) and spring force should not
be less than 197-347 lbs. (27-48 kg).
3) Replace tension pulley spring if not within specification.
Installation
1) Pull tensioner fully toward water pump side and
temporarily tighten retaining bolt. Ensure No. 4 cylinder is at TDC on
compression stroke by rotating crankshaft until keyway aligns with
mark on front crankshaft seal housing (12 o’clock). Rotate camshaft
until timing mark on cam gear (arrow) aligns with mark on upper
camshaft cover (notch). See Fig. 2.
NOTE: When timing marks are aligned as stated above, No. 4 piston
is at TDC on compression stroke.
2) Position timing belt over crankshaft sprocket, oil pump
sprocket, camshaft sprocket and tensioner in that order. Ensure belt
is positioned in sequence given and without slack between sprockets.
Loosen tension sprocket adjusting bolt allowing spring tension to
tighten belt. Tighten adjusting bolt temporarily.
3) Temporarily install crankshaft pulley bolt and rotate
crankshaft 2 complete revolutions in opposite direction of engine
rotation, until marks on crankshaft and front oil seal retainer are
aligned again. See Fig. 2. Loosen tensioner lock bolt, allowing
tesioner spring to fully adjust tension. Tighten tensioner lock bolt.
4) Install timing belt covers. To complete installation,
reverse removal procedures. Tighten all bolts to specification. See
TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS table at end of this article.

Timing is apparntly too advanced no matter how the distributor is set yet runs rougher when turned back.


The timing belt may not be installed properly, the tensioner may be bad, or, you may have forgotton to remove the pin that you should have inserted into the tensioner after squeezing it in a vice or press.
