The wires going from the gear shift , I assume to the break, how can I replace it

I have a 1996 Volvo, when i place the gear shief in any gear, itconnect to the transmission, what do i need to do?


If automatic, there may be a connection broken between transmission and gear shift. I assume you have checked the transmission fluid level. I assume your emergency break is off. If not it may be quite low and you need to fill. That would also indicate a bad leak in the transmission.
If Standard transmission you may have a clutch problem or again a broken connection between gear shift and transmission.

Chrysler 300 2006 will not go into gear how can i fix it


Hi there! That happen to my Chrysler 300. The gear wouldn't shift at all. The problem was..the little pink plastic thing that makes the car shift broke. We called the dealership and they were trying to make us pay a lot of money to replace WHOLE SHIFT GEAR! I was like no sir..so I did researched and I replaced the pink plastic thing with an aluminum one that won't break ever. It was 49.99 from the website I bought it from. They are on sale now for 29.99. My husband replaced piece took him an hour to do it. Never had problems with gear since. Here's the website where I bought it from...

WHATEVER YOU DO..DO NOT TAKE IT TO DEALERSHIP..THEY WILL CHARGE YOU AN ARM AND A LEG AND WILL REPLACE WHOLE GEAR AND PUT PINK PLASTIC THING BACK IN..WHICH EVENTUALLY WILL BREAK AGAIN..GOOD LUCK!!! :)

I have a 2006 Nissan Maxima, and the car won't go out of park unless you activate the Shift lock bypass. When this happens the break inghts don't work. I checked the fuses and have replaced the break


I would check the brake switch & the shift solenoid, if that
applies, that releases the shifter

A wiring diagram is a must, unless your just testing the solenoid

Also there may be some adjustment for the shift linkage

Without the factory manuals & they are on a CD, your at a big
disadvantage,guessing at something you don't know about

Sure need but want to avoid the prices at a dealer

Gear shift is stuck


yhad992, You fail to mention if your vehicle has an automatic or manual transmission and which gear it is stuck in. However, I am going to assume that it is an automatic and you can't get it out of park. Get in your vehicle and have someone see if you have any break lights. This may seem like a strange approach but the break switch controls not only the lights but something called the shift solenoid. This is a safety device that allows your vehicle to be put in gear only when the brake is applied. If you have no brake lights then you will have no power going to the shift solenoid. If this is the case then have your brake switch replaced. Good luck with this.

1999 Honda Accord EX won't shift out of park. It is stuck. I think it's the shift lock solenoid but I'm not sure. How do I get the car out of park. I pushed the brake in but the button on the gear shifter...


If you press the Break pedal and the shift button does not engage, Your Solenoid did not activate to release it out of park. either the: solenoid is out - Bent levers - Solenoid harness disconnected - Break activation wire may be damaged. this piece is easy to replace as it sits on the right side (passanger side) of the shift lever. remove center console cover to access the soleniod which is held on by two 10mm nuts. and a C- clamp

Transmission is shifting hard and slow to pull on a 95 silouette also makes clucking sounds while accelerating


Shift suddenly become very hard. When going from park to either reverse or drive it slams into gear. 1-2 and 2-3 shifts are also harsh. All gears seems to work. Problem may be intermittent: Check TPS for smooth and linear electrical response over the entire range of motion. If not, replace.

Extremely harsh shifts from P or N, normal shifts at WOT: EPC (Electronic Pressure Control) solenoid failed. Easy fix in pan. Fix as soon as possible or hard parts will eventually break.

No 1st or 4th available; trans shifts 2nd to 3rd by itself in D or OD and locks the converter : ShiftA solenoid failed. Easy fix in the pan. Or a wiring problem from PCM to trans.. or PCM.

Car goes into gear but feels very sluggish like the brakes are dragging, but it will roll easily (starts out in 4th gear), you manually shift to 2 to get it moving, once it's moving you put it back in OD and the car shifts 3rd to 4th on its own and locks the converter at the appropriate time: ShiftB solenoid failed: Easy fix in the pan. Or a wiring problem from PCM to trans.. or PCM.

No the saturn limkage problem can not go into any gear and can not be driven in reverse,the gear shift is completely loose


there is a ball socket attatchment for the linkage on the side of the transmission. The linkage breaks the clip and falls off the ball attatchment point. Common to saturn stick shifts of the era. You can order the whole linkage assembly with the clip but its expensive(300ish if I remember right), or you can try and get them to sell you JUST the clip (If your ball and socket are intact) if they package it seperately AND your socket and/or ball didnt break. Assuming they are intact, TEMPORARILY you could use multiple tie wraps or steel wire to tie/hold the ball and socket together but it would likely not last long and have the risk of breaking while driving. Wouldnt do damage if it broke while driving, but you will lose the ability to shift when it goes...and will be restricted to coasting down with clutch depressed or driving in whatever gear you were last in till you can reach a service location.

Tow haul button does not engage - the light does not come on and the feature does not work


check fuses... if ok the wires going to that button like to break ... unscrew handle end and inspect...

Gear shift won't move out of park


safety switch on brake pedal. common cause is a wire breaking off. there are 1 to 2 wires going to this switch. It is located on the brake pedal bracket above the foot pad.

Car will start but gear shift is locked


follow instructions in manual for SHIFTLOCK RELEASE

Turn off car.
Engage Parking Break
Take ignition key and put into shift lock release slot (near gear shift)
Push down on key and at same time MOVE gear shift to neutral.
Remove key, start car as normal and disengage parking break...

good to go.... mechanic can replace/repair if this is an ongoing issue: $85 I read somewhere...but heard it's not hard to do yourself for $35 someone else wrote.
