SOURCE: charging the battery

The slower you charge the battery the better it is for the battery life. If the battery went dead and there doesn't seem to be any reason have a local parts store load test it, it may have a dead or shorted cell and need to be replaced. The testing is free at Autozone and others like them. Please rate my help for Fixya. Thanks

12 volt 6 amps to quickly charge it from dead/flat or very low.

12 volt 2 amps as a trickle charge to maintain the battery when you are not using the vehicle for an extended time.

My 1999 Chrysler LHS battery drained why is this happening

Tons of possibilities here. Corrosion on terminals builds up over time, causing higher resistance for the electricity going back into the battery from the alternator, causing it to charge more slowly. Moisture (or moisture in dirt) on top of the battery can cause a slow discharge between the poles (worse in humid areas). Short circuits (from bare wires, corroded connectors, etc.). Devices such as phone chargers plugged into power outlets that stay on when the key is off (some do, some do not). Interior lights left on. Remember, also, that alternator recharging will typically not take a maintenance free battery to 100% charge once it has been severely discharged. That means that, even though the car may seem to start fine, it may reach the point of turning the engine slowly (or not at all) much more quickly. It will only reach 100% again if trickle charged (with a battery charger). Probably 4 out of 5 of my battery issues have been solved with a good terminal cleaning and an overnight trickle charge, and my batteries rarely last less than 5 years. My truck battery is still going strong at 9 years. Regardless, though, batteries eventually stop charging, even expensive ones. Hope it turns out to be something simple.

Begin by jump starting; if that helps, trickle charge the battery.

Charging the battery

I recommend using the slow (2amp) charge whenever possible. The slower the charge (in general) the better the results) I will recommend that when you are charging the battery, you remove it from the car or at least remove the cables so there is no drain on it. By removing it all together, you eliminate the possibility of damaging it (your car) from charging a damaged battery and all the nasty little things that can happen! I come from old school and although I have heard conflicting stories since, I always place the battery on a couple pieces of wood to keep it up off the ground and to avoid any damage that leaking acid can cause. Always wear rubber gloves and keep the battery away from your skin or anything else you don't want to damage. always wash thoroughly! Please let me know how you made out or if you have more questions. Thanks and good luck!

Slow charge the battery up for 3 days on a trickle charge and see if it still does it.

If it does, maybe a new battery is in order.

Batteries last only 3 years on average.

Good luck.

As long as you use a slow charg device, yes. Rapid charge devices will blow the fuse or at worst can cause a fire.
