Altima alternator problem?

I replaced my battery, then i thought it was the alternator. diving home from school my battery light and brake light would come on when i was under 2000 rpm. air bag light flashing. a mile away from home the speedometer stopped working. 700 feet from my house when my car stared to sputter, as if the engine was on then off over and over. power steering failed and i barely made it to my house when the car died.

2004 Nissan Altima 3.5L BATTERY LIGHT went on during 15 minute drive. Next day car "died" while idling after a 20 minute drive. BRAKE WARNING LIGHT & BATTERY LIGHT on prior to full electrical failure.

Start with checking the alternator voltage with a multimeter. With the car off check the voltage in the battery which should be holding 12v charged less if flat of course then start the car and test the battery again. If the alternator is good you should be getting a reading of 14 to 14.5 v if it's the alternator it'll A) not put any charge into the battery or B) be a very low voltage being anything under 13.5 v

Does the engine crank or do you get a click noise. if you getting a clicking then the start is bad, if the engine is cranking you will need see if are getting gas to the engine and also spark to the spark plugs. if it cranks then look at a crank position sensor

On my dashbord of my 1999 altima has the red light for the battery and the brakes.

check if the brakes are low...
the battery light mostly comes out because of either the battery of the alternator...mainly the alternator...
so you need to test them both with a volt meter...the battery should be giving 14+ volts when the car is running...
Good Luck!

Check alternator belt. Light is to show alternator working, not battery state.
If you have a volt meter check output is around 12.5 -14.5 volts when car running.

What is wrong when the brake and battery light is on

check your belts. make sure the alternator belt is on and is in good condition. the alternator belt might be broken and you might be running on just battery power. which would cause the battery light to turn on... just a thought

Brake and battery lights stay on

when both lights stay on with the car running it usually indicates an alternator that is not charging at an acceptable voltage level. check the battery voltage with the car running, if it is under 13.5V you should replace your alternator.
