Was there any letters in front of those codes? That usually signifies the general area where the problem is coming from but without the letter in front of those numbers, there is no way to tell what the codes are for. Also we need the engine type to help narrow it down as well.

Will run fine sometimes then cough and almost stall before it fires up again. it will continue to do this and cannot be driven. we have replaced the fuel system and computer

Had a bad crankshaft sensor go out while driving. Would come back in 5-10 seconds and drive fine. Everything else still worked but no throttle when it went haywire. This went on about 10 different times going about 50 mph. Ran codes at autozone that help narrow things down. It had 5-6 codes at the time. Picked that because I got lucky

1999 Ford Contour engine light is on. Engine light came on for second time today. Reset this a few months ago and it seemed to be fine until today. The car seems to run fine at this time. Both times...

A possible culprit could be your O2 sensor (Oxygen sensor in the exhaust manifod or piping). These are usually good for about 80K to 100K miles. When they fail or start to deviate too far from their baseline readings they can cause the check engine light to come on. Driving on the highway at higher speeds would result in higher exhaust temperatures than typically are encountered during in- town driving so this could explain why it only occurs on at higher speeds (which equal higher engine loads of course). You could buy an engine code checker or take it to a shop and have them read the error codes for you to narrow it down and/or confirm my O2 sensor idea.

Engine light on, the car was running a bit sluggish. i replaced the plugs and wires and it runs good now. but had also found out that the 3rd cylinder had misfired. cleared the code and it still hasnt...

See if you can pull a code off the check engine light would help. Check fuel pressure at engine in case you have weak pressure will cause hard start/prolonged cranking. Other emissions related components can do this also, but if you get a code can narrow it down.....Mike

I have a 1998 vw new beetle. The check engine light came on and not sure why. The car seems to be running fine. Last week we replaced the tensioner pulley and a new belt. Now I have the engine light on....

Some auto parts stores scan check engine lights for free. If you can get the code, and tell me what your engine/trans is in the Beetle, I can help narrow down the cause of the check engine light.

The truck runs fine until it warms up and then it loses power and then is ok and back and forth

Start with the basics. Any codes? If not then its just narrowing down the usual suspects. Spark plugs and wire. Air filter, fuel filter. Distibutor cap and rotor. Dirty injectors. Any of these can cause your problem. Any smoking? If so, a blown plenum gasket on the intake manifold can cause this issue. The plenum gasket is common to fail in these rams. Hope this helps.

Service engine soon light keeps on coming on after resetting code. Have changed mas sensor, fuel filter, and upper gaskets 97 ford taurus

You need to find out what the codes are in the computer that are causing the engine light to come on,then repair the problem,You will spend a lot of money not doing so.

Engine Check Light

you should have the code read and go from there. You must realize sometimes it is like an early warning for things to come so it is best to know what the code is causing lightt to correct the problem.there are several things which can cause a light without effecting running condition. But if you let it go it may cost more further down the road.

Runs real rough while stopped, but is fine while accelerating

If the check engine light is on, take the car to an autoparts store and have them scan the computer for any fault codes stored there. Most parts stores will perform the scan for free. I would suspect a faulty idle air control valve based on what you described, but getting the codes should help narrow down the cause of the problem. Sure hope this helped and best wishes.

Engine stalls while driving. can happen at any time. at speed or at idle. restarts right away and runs fine until the next incident.

Is the check engine light on? If it is, I would suggest that you take the car to an autoparts store and have them use a scan tool and retrieve the fault code(s) that are stored in the computer. The problem you describe could be caused by a faulty EGR valve or throttle position sensor, but getting the codes will narrow down the pesky problem. Sure hope this helped you.

Check engine light comes on after about 15 minutes of driving...turns off after car is turned off and turned back on, but comes back on after a little while...doesnt change way the car it worth...

If the check engine light is on, then take it to any auto parts store. They will attach a scan tool and get a readout of the engine fault codes. This will help narrow down what is causing the problem. The purpose of the check engine light is to alert the driver to a potential problem. It could be an emission problem of some sort like an oxygen sensor going bad or some other reason. Even though the engine is running fine, the codes should still be checked. Hope this helped you.
