You need deep socket 30 or 32 mm.for axle,At back is three bolts 14 or 15 mm.then pull out.Put stands under car.

Can i replace the hub and axle in one piece only for the fact that my axle nut is damaged can i pull the axle out of the the transmission and replace the hub and axle I've already replaced pass front axle


The hub needs to be removed from the axle in most cases for the axle to be removed from the vehicle. If you are replacing the axle anyway, you could cut off the end of the spindle with a cut-off disc on a grinder. That way the hub can come off and you can remove the axle. Hope this helps.

Front c/v axle will not come out of the hub/bearing assembly...need help!!!


I have had them so stuck that I have had to pull the whole spindle off with the axle still attached.....be prepared to buy a new axle and probobly a new hub and bearing assembly....when out try more heat....I had to borrow a torch last time it happened to me on a Stratus....ended up having to almost cut it out with torch....a new axle will have a smaller core charge than a reman. one if you ruin the axle....and all that pounding cant be good for the bearing/hub assembly...good luck...Lee

What is the foot pounds for the front wheel bearings on a 1995 chrysler cirrus


Hello, If you Chrysler has replaceable wheel bearings and seal. This is the way it goes---pack the wheel bearing with new grease-install the bearing in the wheel nub--install new back wheel seal--coat the axle shaft with grease lightly, thing coat-----install wheel hub on to axle shaft...be careful here don't damage the rear hub seal------------insert front race washer---install axle shaft nut--tighten nut down wheel nut until it is firm with water pump pliers----spin the hub/with tire mounted.
(the wheel and hub will turn but not freely)----take the pliers and back off the axle nut 1/4 turn----now spin the wheel and axle hub, it should spin freely---now if doesn't spin freely---back off the axle nut about 1/16 or 1/32 (or just a little bit)-----now, spin the wheel and hub and if turn freely------------Now grab the top of the wheel/tire and move it back and forth.-----if there is some movement ---try tighten the axle nut just a little little bit, unit the one can barely feel some little movement in the wheel/tire and hub.-----------Now, spin the wheel/tire and hub and it should also turn freely.

If it does----install new and correct size of cotter pin and bent the ends around the axle nut.----

coat the inside of the hub cup with grease. Now, use an rubber or plastic hammer to install the cup on the wheel/tire hub. You are finished with one wheel bearing maintenance. Now do the other side.



I really don't know if you Chrysler Cirrus has replaceable wheel bearing. All the auto/trucks have replaceable hubs, that means that the replacement is total hub with axle shaft, sealed bearings, and seals. This is bolt to each wheel steering hub. This work to remove these one unit hubs.

Four bolts hold the axle hub to the steering hub. Hear is the problem!! it has rusted to the steering hub. Also, these hubs cost more than replacing bearings, races, seals to cool turn of $180 to $250+ I wish you luck in your replacement of wheel bearing on your Chrysler. GB..stewbison

Removal & Installation To Remove:

  1. Remove the front wheel.
  2. Remove the front axle hub nut.
  3. Disconnect the front stabilizer link from the strut.
  4. Disconnect the speed sensor (with ABS).
  5. Remove the front brake caliper and rotor.
  6. Disconnect the tie rod end.
  7. Remove mounting bolts and nut and separate the lower control arm from the ball joint.
  8. Using a plastic hammer separate the front axle shaft from the hub.
  9. Remove the 2 mounting bolts from the strut. Remove the knuckle and hub assembly.
  10. Remove the lower ball joint from the knuckle.
  11. Remove the axle hub snap ring from the knuckle. toy_car_cor-02-04wheelhub2.gif

  12. Remove the axle hub from the hub bearing using special tool 09520-00031 or equivalent hub puller.
  13. Remove the inner race from the axle hub using special tool 09950-40011 or equivalent puller.
  14. Remove the dust shield from the knuckle.
  15. Remove the axle hub bearing from the knuckle using special tool 09520-00031 or equivalent and a press.
To Install:
  1. Install the axle hub bearing on the knuckle using special tool 09950-600020 or equivalent and a press.
  2. Install the dust shield on the knuckle with 3 mounting bolts.
    • Tighten 73 in-lb (90 Nm).
  3. Install the axle hub on the knuckle using special tool 09950-600010 or equivalent and a press.
  4. Install the axle hub snap ring.
  5. Install the lower ball joint on the knuckle.
    • Tighten the ball stud castle nut 76 ft-lb (103 Nm).
  6. Install a new cotter pin.
  7. Install the knuckle on the strut with the 2 nuts and bolts.
    • Tighten 162 ft-lb (220 Nm) (except '03-'04) 113 ft-lb (153 Nm) ('03-'04).
  8. Lift the knuckle and hub assembly over the axle shaft and into the hub splines.
  9. Install the lower control arm on the lower ball joint.
  10. Connect the tie rod end to the knuckle.
  11. Connect the stabilizer link to the strut.
  12. Install the front rotor and brake caliper to the knuckle.
    • Tighten the 2 caliper bolts 79 ft-lb (107 Nm).
  13. Install the ABS sensor if equipped.
  14. Install the front axle hub lock nut.
    • Tighten 159 ft-lb (216 Nm) and stake the lock nut.
  15. Check the axle hub backlash and run-out.
  16. Install the front wheel.
  17. Check the front wheel alignment and adjust if necessary.

I need to know how to replace the hub bearings on my grand am


The front wheel bearings on this car come as a sealed unit inside the wheel hub.
things you will need to replace them
-torque specs for your cars axle nut, hub retaining bolts, brake caliper mounting bracket bolts, and wheel lug nuts.
-a socket set
-a breaker bar
-a axle nut socket
-a c-clamp
-a jack
-two jack stands

To complete the job follow these steps
1) remove the hub cap/wheel center cap
2) remove the axle nut cap (use the tip of a small flat screwdriver to pry up one edge, pull it off)
3) remove the cotter pin from the end of the axle shaft
4) using a breaker bar style wrench (non-ratcheting socket wrench) with a helper pipe slid over the end to increase leverage use an axle nut socket to loosen the axle nut without removing it.(these are torqued pretty tight and can be stubborn, don't be afraid to use a generous amount of penetrating fluid).
5) once the nut is loose, loosen the wheel lug nuts
tip: doing steps 4 and 5 is made easier with the weight of the car on the ground to keep the wheel from spinning while you loosen the nuts.
6) jack up one corner of the car, and support it with a jack stand. lower the jack to rest the weight of the car on the jack stand, then lift the jack back up to contact the cars jacking point, without taking the weight off the jack stand. leave the jack in place as added support.
7) remove the wheel
8) remove the brake caliper from the hub (if you remove the caliper mounting bracket with the caliper still attached as a unit it's only two bolts to remove it together) hang it from the strut spring with some heavy wire or a metal clothes hanger being sure not to pinch or kink the brake line in the process.
9) remove the brake disc/rotor
10) locate the wheel speed sensor (a small electronic box located on the back side of the wheel hub) a small bolt secures it to the hub, remove the bolt and move the sensor to the side out of your way.
11) locate and remove the three hub retaining bolts (reachable from the rear of the hub)
12) remove the axle nut and use a jack stand to support the axle shaft
13) use a "soft blow" hammer (if possible) to tap on the back side at the outer edges of the hub working your way around in a circle so as to drive the hub out of its housing/steering knuckle evenly. As the hub comes out of the housing/steering knuckle the axle will want to slide with it, in turn pulling the axle out of the transmission. try not to let this happen. if necessary tap lightly on the end of the axle shaft to free it from the hub, once the hub comes loose remove it. this is where supporting the axle with a jack stand comes in handy. try not to allow the axle to scratch the hub mating surface.
14)clean the cavity that the hub came out of, remove the axle shaft support jack stand as you slide the new hub into place lining up the axle and the holes where the hub retaining bolts go (if you just shove it in, it can be impossible to turn it to line up the bolt holes) be sure that it is seated tightly against the steering knuckle, and that the axle is all the way into place. put the axle nut on but do not tighten it yet
14) replace the hub retaining bolts and torque to specs
15) replace the wheel speed sensor
16) replace the rotor/brake disc
17) replace the brake caliper and mounting bracket unit, this may require you to spread the brake pad pistons (this is easiest with a c-clamp slowly squeezing the piston open so as to not create too much pressure in the brake line or master cylinder). if a c-clamp is not available a large pair of channel lock pliers can do the job. once its in place, torque the caliper bracket mounting bolt to specs
18) raise the car off the jack stand, tighten the axle nut to snug and replace the wheel, remove the jack stand and lower the car to the ground.
19) torque the axle nut to specs
20) replace the axle shaft cotter pin and axle nut cap
21) torque the wheel lug nuts to specs
this should complete one side so switch your tools and equipment to the other side of the car and repeat the process. i hope this helps

Cv joint replacement giude on my 97 honda accord


to replace the cv shaft on a honda is real easy, remove the tire,remove the lower ball joint cotter pin and nut, remove the bolt that holds the strut to the lower control arm, remove the axle nut in the center of the hub. seperate the lower ball joint from the hub. pull out on the hud a little bit and tap the axle through the hub. tie the hub out of your way so you can work. place a pry bar between the axle and the trany and give it a good snap out, remove the old axle, when installing place the new axle in the transmission and hit the end of it with a dead blow hammer to make sure it seats, then put the axle through strut fork and into the hub reinstall all bolts and tighten. hope this helps good luck. this should only take about 45 min

I have a 1995 Dodge Ram 1500 4 x 4, I need to remove the Left Axle from the Axle Housing to replace seals and U-joint. How do I remove the Axle from the Axle Housing?


Remove wheel....remove brakes....three bolts behind the hub (9/16" 12pt socket)....1 11/16" nut in center of hub needs to be removed. You will need a slide hammer type puller to hook onto the hub for removal. (you should replace the hub...prone to go bad)....axle will now slide out through opening where the hub was.

Upper and lower ball joint replacement


to remove the axles, remove brake caliper and disc, remove hub assembly, the center hub/axle nut and...(there are i think 3-4 bolts on the back side of the spindle to remove the hub), you may have to force the hub off the spindle with a hammer or air hammer... once the hub is out the axle should slide out of the front differential allowing access to the ball joint nuts for removal...

Need to remove and replace rear rotor


You have to remove the axle shafts first as it has a full-floating axle, then pull rotor and hub off the axle housing. Unbolt rotors from hub. Check bearings and seals in hubs and the axle snouts where the bearings run before installing. Put new flange gaskets on axle and torque flange bolts to 95 ft-lbs.
