What ever reason you changed it for, the alternator had too much preload on it and now the alternator is bad.

A bad alternator? But i changed the belt because it was going bad. So if the alternator is bad it will make the a/c pulley wobble and smoke? Its fine till it gets warm then it starts wobbling

  • Brad Brown Apr 26, 2013

I misread that. If the A/C pulley is wobbling, you are sure that it is the right belt and it has 4 grooves and it is not the idler pulley that is wobbling, you are looking at having to replace the clutch assembly on the compressor OR the whole compressor. The whole compressor is about 165 dollars. The clutch by itself is about 120. You might run into some mechanics that want to remove the compressor to work on it. If it is removed to be worked on OR replaced, you are looking at a AC recovery and restoration fee. So you are into this for about 1000 dollars.

Its the pulley right below the alternator. Im pretty sure its the a/c pulley. Anyway to bypass it with a smaller belt

  • Michael DeMarre Apr 26, 2013

How long will it run before it breaks completely?

SOURCE: Determining if head gasket is blown on a 1994 honda accord Ex w VTec

White smoke out of the exhaust is one indication that the head gasket is blown. Another is to start the car and check the oil on the dipstick. If it's frothy or looks like a milkshake, this is another indication of a blown head gasket. The milky appearance indicates that coolant is in your engine, caused by a bad head gasket. If none of these symptoms occur, then the problem lies elsewhere. Hope this answers your question and feel free to post back with any other concerns or questions. Thank you.

SOURCE: 93 Honda Accord Black Smoke When Accelerating

You have gone past the operating parameters of the computer sensors that measure air flow and manifold pressures There are many websites that deal with honda mods like yours, and likely you will find a cure there. I know there is a map sensor modification that can be made on Jeeps with the same items you have added, likely yours can be done as well. Try google and just type in honda forums and see what comes up.

High pitched howling and screeching (yes two different noises). The howling appears to happen when the air conditioning compressor pulley engages. The screeching, my guess would be from the belt. Any...

When the AC compressor kicks on, an electrical load is placed on the alternator and the drive belt that turns the alternator pulley, if not tight enough, can cause the belt to squeal. Replacing the belt should help with that noise if the belt is stretched from wear. The screeching noise can be from a bad idler pulley, a bad belt tensioner pulley or a bad alternator pulley or a failing clutch on a very old ac compressor and rarely a water pump pulley. To check pulleys remove the drive belt and turn them individually to see if they can be tilted up down or sideways with play in the "bearing" of the pulley. Also, you may wish to visually inspect the clutch on the ac and look for melted black rubber around the bolts that secure the clutch to the compressor (stinks, smokes and melts these rubber areas if ac compressor clutch fails).

I am purchasing a 1991 Honda Accord EX with 60,000 miles. The engine mounts need replaced to fix a vibration at stop lights. Any other issues that I should look at fixing as part of PM?

Yes, I always do the same thing when I buy a new vehicle that way I keep track of it and know exactly when it was done. first buy a new air filter, new fuel filter, new spark plugs, and maybe plug wires. check all belts and hoses. and change oil and filter. these things will pay for themselves. have fun. Wow a 91' with only 60,000 miles that's amazing. I've got 178,000 on my 93' accord lx and it's still running perfect!!

Crankshaft pulley (harmonic balancer) removal- disconnect neg battery cable, remove belts, it would be a good idea to soak the bolt w/ penetrating oil overnight, there is a special 'crankshaft pulley holding tool' available to secure the pulley while removing and installing the bolt. Some parts stores loan tools for free if u purchase parts from them, I don't know if this is available, but it would be worth checking out. Attach holding tool and remove bolt securing pulley. Carefully remove pulley from crankshaft, Do NOT pry off. Remove key from crankshaft sprocket,
Install: install key on crankshaft sprocket, slide pulley on, apply clean oil to bolt threads but NOT to washer contact surfaces, secure crankshaft w/ holding tool, tighten to 159 ft lbs (91-93 Accord), install belts, re-attach neg cable.
