Ford focus door handle won't latch closed

The rear driver's side door won't latch shut. I can't remove it without removing the window assembly. Is this a part that breaks often?

SOURCE: What are the steps to

To remove the inside door handle:
1. Remove the door panel/trim
2. Pull the handle assembly towards you then slide to the left.
3. Set door latch to lock position.
4. With a thin blade screw driver, unclip the remote cable being careful not to damage the cable.
5. Installation is the exact opposite to removal.

To remove outside door handle:
1.With the door trim off, remove the grommet so that you can access a screw under it. This is in the top right area of the inside of the door.
2.Loosen the screw under this grommet, it doesn't have to be fully removed.
3. Then remove the outside door lock cover by just pulling it straight off.
4. Remove outside door handle by pulling it out then slide it to the left.

Hope this helped, let me know if you need more information.

Remove the inside door handle trim.Remove the inside door handle. Remove the 2 phillips screws holding the handle. Slide the handle back slightly. There is a notch in the sheet metal to allow removal of the handle. Find the notch, lift up and out until the door handle clears the door. Disconnect the cable from the door handle. Remove the screw mounting the cable to the door handle. Hold the door handle open and rotate the cable around to release the cable end from the handle. Disconnect the plastic retaining clip mounted to the interior of the door. Pull the cable to the bottom of the door.

I need written instructions on how to replace a outside driver side door handle for an 06 ford focus

Close/wind up the window. Remove the inside door panel. Be careful with power window switch and door speaker wiring connectors. Disconnect them before pulling the door panel away. Remove any plastic covers that may be glued to the door. Have a look at the door handle from inside the door. You will have some idea as to how to remove it. Usually door handles are secured by screws from the inside. Locate and remove them. Remove linkages to the door handle then pull handle form outside.

I have a 2002 ford explorer sport and my door ajar is on and all the doors are shut and the dome light stays on constantly.. Is this common and how can i fix this?

Yes this is coming for ford products. They use w door ajar switch that is attached to the door latch assembly. The most common one to fail is the driver front. Something you can try is clean the out side of the door latch, the part that actually holds the door shut, with brake clean. Don't be afraid to liberally spray into the latch assembly. Let it dry and then liberally spray the same area with penetrating lube. Again don't be afraid to spray it in every nook and cranny you can get into. Then open and close the door several time. Spray it again with the penetrating lube and repeat a couple of times. If the door ajar light goes out when the door is closed problem solved. If the light continues to stay on you have two options. 1. Your can remove all five door panels and unplug the door switches one at a time until the door acharya light goes out. Again the switch is located on the latch assembly and has a two wire connector. Once you find the one that is stuck you can remove it and either clean it/lube it until it starts to work again or replace it. The switches twist into position in the latch assembly and if it's your first one it may be easier for you to remove the latch from the door to understand how the switch is attached. Neither is an easy task your first time. 2. You can have a shop use a scan tool to communicate with the GEM module to see what switch is stuck open. You can then focus on that door. There will be a diagnostic charge for this. Call around and see what various shops in your area charge for this. They will know exactly what you are talking about when you explain the problem as it is very common. Hope that helps. Let us know what you find!
