The security, antitheft, or passlock light is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterperates this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle.
This link may help you find ways to bypass this or fix it yourself.

Security Alert:

If the symbol lights momentarily it may mean that the ignition switch is locked and will need the proper transponder-equipped key to re-start. If the symbol is visible when the vehicle is on, then it typically indicates a malfunction in the security system.

Security system apparently malfunctioning....makes car inoperative (not able to start) after period of time car is able to start...mechanic trying to work out a bypass or shut down security...any...

So you want to make you car less secure ? .....have the system checked by a RR dealership and corrected. There is no simple way to by-pass the anti theft and a continuing fault may drain the battery over night.

Security and Immobilizer System Indicator Symbols Symbols & Tell-tales
engine_immobilizer.gifsecurity_indicator_symbol.gifThese are Security and/or Immobilizer System Indicator symbols used by manufacturers. One of these symbols lights momentarily to indicate that the ignition switch is locked and will need the proper transponder-equipped key to re-start. The vehicle is immobilized otherwise. Green symbols will flash when the vehicle is immobilized.
lock.gifIf the symbol is visible when the vehicle is on, it indicates a malfunction in the security system. If the engine does not start with the correct key, and the security indicator remains on, the system may have a malfunction. You will need to contact your dealer in either case.
Keep the Symbol meanings with you!

99 mercury cougar anti theft light flashing no spark

if the security system is malfunctioning, it wont let the engine start as to avoid someone stealing it. have someone check the system or just deactivate the security cuz your car is useless unless it runs! security can take a back seat to the ability for it to move

Why wont my 2000 buick lesabre start when the security light comes on?

The light is on to indicate you have been locked out and the engine disabled. You must now have the dealer scan the system and determine the cause of the malfunction in the security system, it is likely the ignition lock cylinder key code reader that is defective.

Security system draining battery

Hello, In a situation when the security system in your car is draining the battery,it means there is a problem with the programming system which integrates the security system with the car, hence the system will malfunction.
The solution is beyond a do-it-yourself solution cause it requires the input of the manufacturer of your car, they have to carryout a total reprogramming of the security system with your car, which means you have to take your car to the manufacturer.
That's the only solution to the problem.

Have a nice day,Thank you for using fixya...

Security System on 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 malfunctioning

if you do not want to go back to the dealer then take it to an alarm shop which does private installations on cars and trucks because most of the time when they install after market alarms they bypass them or just pull out the factory alarm altogether.
