Question about Cars & Trucks
I need a new cluster for my 86 monte carlo ss....my gauges aren't working because of this ....where can I find one soon
I tried Google by adding 1986 Monte Carlo SS dash cluster and found people out there selling these. Try this and see what comes up.

The fuel filter is located in the pressure line that runs from the fuel tank to the engine,
near to the fuel tank.
Keep the engine off for few hours before replacing the filter, to get rid of some pressure in the lines.

If you recently had your oil changed or your car serviced, the light should have been reset. To reset the light, turn the key to the on position WITHOUT starting the car. If the car starts it will not work. With the key in the on position, push the gas pedal down three times and hold on the last one until it resets. If this does not fix the problem, there may be an underlying reason and should be looked at by a mechanic.

It is likely the fuel level sending unit. I had a customer with an 03 Monte Carlo that the pump went out and the fuel gauge hadn't worked in about a year. We replaced the fuel pump module and it took care of both problems. I believe the sending unit is available separately from the complete module.

I had the same problem with a 2000 monte SS. I changed thermostat, disconnected battery and reconnected, and problem was fixed. This happened in cold months of the year when the engine wouldn't warm up completely and let the car run at it's optimum air/fuel mixture.
