I have a 1965 mercury comet with a 289 v8. I want to know what type of differential I have in it so I can buy a new cover for it

Here are the spec's for the 1965 mercury comet, 289 V8:

For 1965, the Comet Cyclone was powered by the 289-cu.in. V-8 with 225hp, the same engine that was put into Mustangs. And for more power, there was a special high-performance package, better known as "Hi-Po," available with the Cyclone, and it shared the 271hp V-8 which, when installed in a Mustang, was known as the "K" code car. In the Comet, the engine code is "A." When equipped with the Hi-Po package, a 1965 Cyclone came standard with: 289 four-barrel high-performance engine, four-speed Toploader transmission, nine-inch differential, performance suspension, quick-ratio steering and 8,000-rpm Rotunda tachometer. However, the following items were extra-cost mandatory options with the 271hp engine package: four-speed transmission, heavy-duty front suspension, low-profile rayon tires and 42-amp alternator, according to 1965 sales information.

Its a 9-inch differential at best. Try this link for more data:

Valve cover gasket leaking oil. Need to replace. What steps do take when taking off old gasket and putting on the new one?

Take off the vacuum lines one at a time labeling each with tape (one piece with a number on each line and a corresponding number at the fitting). Take off the plug wires also labeling them. You should have enough space to pull the cover. If there any hoses or brackets in the way you may need to take them off or tie them out of the way with a piece of string. Tap the cover with a rubber mallet to loosen the gasket. Remove the valve cover and clean all surfaces on the cylinder head to remove pieces of old gasket and dirt. Use an Exacto blade to clean old material from the cover. Use a 1/4 diameter wooden dowel (6 in long) and the mallet to flatten the bolt holes in the cover. Clean any old oil and residue and dry using a solvent. Use a quality sealer (like Permatex red) on the cover and head. Place the new gasket on the head and set the cover on gently. Install the bolts starting from the center and working towards the ends. Tighten first to 6 ft lbs then to 14. Reset the hoses, brackets etc.

2000 Boxter and top will not go up. Had no problem with dropping top about 2 hrs ago. Emergency brake is on. Any suggestions? Thanks.

First, also check fuse B6 in that same kick panel fuse/relay carrier.

The other microswitches that affect the operation of the top (for a MY99) are:
B-pillar microswitch, located just below the B-pillar over the driver's left shoulder, behing a long, semi-circular carpet-covered plastic panel;
Clamshell microswitch located on top of the electric motor just forward of the third brake light;
Roof Latch microswitch (there are actually two switches located there), located inside the receptacle in the middle of the top windshield frame.

First, I would verify that both windows simultaneously drop about 4" when you first pull the latch down (with the parking brake pulled up and the idiot light on).

If that doesn't happen, you may have a problem with one of those two microswitches. Poke your finger into where the latch goes into the receptacle while you keep the top switch depressed, and see if you get a reaction.

I would also take out the double relay (in that same relay carrier in the driver's kick panel) and tap it on a flat, hard surface a couple of times, then install it and pull it off a couple of times (removes light corrosion on the terminals) and see if that solves your problem. The double relay is the only double relay in the relay carrier, and it is located in the third row from the bottom (bottom row has no relays), second from the right.

How to install abs ring?

ABS ring at front fits on CV joint and should come fitted on a new joint. if not fitted, can be tapped on lightly and evenly using a hammer and punch. rear ABS ring fits inside brake drum. when changing discs/drums ring must be tapped off with punch placed through wheel bolt holes to back of ring. to refit tap on to inside of drum.

Boxster 2001 brake lights not working

That leaves the microswitch or the wiring.Verify microswitch is working first and the check wiring continuity. The microswitch closes as you press the pedal and transfer power to brake lights.
If the microswitch is O.k then it will be the wiring that is at fault.

hope it helps.
