SOURCE: Pump Priming Problems.

you should try to pack the gears and pump cavity with petroleum jelly which will prime the pump and the oil will then displace the jelly. If you use any other kind of grease, the oil will not be able to displace it so make sure you only use petroleum jelly. This is the stuff used in the medical field but works great for this purpose too. Let me know how it goes and whether you have any further questions. Thanks and good luck

How do i prime an oil pump on a 460 ford engine?

If it's lubricating oil, you don't need to prime, it is self-priming. If you have a diesel engine, and you are speaking of the diesel fuel and filter pump system, then you should have a manual pump on top of the fuel filter that when pushed down and released, will suction fuel from the tank and push through the filter and to the injection pump. Although, most large trucks use an electric "lift pump" which does this automatically. So if you can be more descriptive of your problem it will help us to help you.

I had my oil pan replaced and now I have no oil pressure.

you need to prime the oil pump before runninning the engine, easiest way is to locate the oil pump drive and attach a drill to spin the pump so the oil gets around all the galleries

289 ford motor showing no oil pressure. we have replased the oil pump, checked the bearings but can not find the problem. no oil for the top end, Help

You did "prime" the oil pump? If the oil pump isn't primed when you install it, the gears are "dry" and won't develop any suction to start pumping oil. Another issue cuold be the pick up screen. When you installed it, did you make sure the angle was correct, so that it sits just above the bottom of the oil pan?

How do i prime the oil pump in a 99 e250 5.4L

Oil pump is self priming. You do not need to prime it. If not showing oil pressure, the sensor is probably defective. Make sure oil level is not low. If the vehicles water temperature gauge shows normal when running then oil pump is working fine. If it goes to the overheat mark then you may have defective oil pump, which is rare. Most temperature gauges go past the middle when you first start up but then drop back to normal once the engine thermostat opens up. Hope this helps.

Why replace the oil pump? That won't make noises go away or cause noises. Your mechanic should be able to answer theses questions, as to the cause of noises.

My 1995 ford winstar gl 3.8 split port induction.....i changed the oil pump and am still not getting any oil pressure...I pulled it off again and checkt 2 c if the oil pump shaft is turning and it is...

did you prime the oil pump, if not you locked the oil pump up. when installing a new oil pump you must prime it with new oil. if your cam isn't turning it sounds like your cam broke or your timing chain broke.

Procedure to r&r oil pump

To remove the oil pump you will need to drop the oil pan to gain access to the oil pump. Difficulty depends on what engine is in the van and clearances available to remove the pan. But, basically an easy process if you have any mechanical skills and the correct tools for the process.
Be sure to prime the new oil pump before you install it or start the engine.
