no problem. If you are getting that low of voltage on a load then you might want to test the alternator as well to make sure it is running at capacity.

I would check your crankshaft positing sensor this may be bad. I would also change your spark plugs and wires becuase they may have got water in them causing a short between them and the head. I would very carefully use air to clean the dirt from your engine compartment first. Autozone runs a free code check for you and this will tell you your problem. To clear your codes and to make the check engine light go off take off your battery cables and wait 30 minutes. You may also have a bad coil which will cause a misfire as well and a 306 error means a misfire to your 6th cylinder so it's probaly this. I hope this information helps.

Could be many things, Check the EGR valve and make sure its not stuck open, Oil pressure low is probably due to rough idle or low RPM. Also may have restricted cat converter.

Check engine light/ battery light / check gages light all came on at the same time.

Have the alternator and battery tested this many warning lights come on most often due to low battery voltage due to a faulty alternator.

1998 Lincoln Mark VIII sometimes stalls when idling in gear

Do you have a "Check Engine" light?

Check the coils in each cylinder. At 140k the valve cover gaskets tend to break and oil will fill the coils causing misfires and stalling.

I noticed this issue a few weeks ago,I drive 25 miles to work and near the last 3 miles of my trip the car would knock and loose power and when at idle it would seem as though it wanted to stall. After the...

I would do a general tune up. Change your oil and filter and check for any oil leaks, this can cause the "knocking" sound you hear and if it is left to continue you will blow a piston rod.

Change your spark plugs and wires, as well as the distributor or distributorless ignition. Change the Fuel Filter(s) and make sure your battery is less then 2 years old.

Then replace your Thermostat and Thermostat Sensor.

Also, DO NOT drive the car more than 20 miles. If it starts having these problems at 22 miles, then you idly should not drive it for more than 15 miles, IF YOU HAVE TO. Letting the car get that heated up while it is in need of car, is a good way to find yourself looking for a new car in less than a few weeks. Especially with contours. If you continue to drive it, you will crack the block and it won't even be worth $200 in scrap iron.

Park it and get the tune up done and then you should either have a clean running car again, or at least have a clear idea of where to go next. In your model of car, a tune up should cost you from $100-150 in parts if you do it yourself.

Please also take into consideration that if you have driven it for more than a week or two with it's current problems, that you could have already blown the cylinder head gasket or cracked the block.

To check those, you can buy or borrow an Engine Compression Checker. This will tell you if there is a leak that cannot be fixed, if it shows that there is, I would suggest looking for a new vehicle.

Eratic Ideling and Wants to die, Backfire through Intake.

I also have 2001 S10, 4.3 V6 Engine code W, 4x4, Automatic, 137,000 miles. About 3 weeks ago, I had intake manifold gasket changed and every since then has been doing the same as yours. I suspected that the yahoo who did the gasket change got the distributor in wrong. I had one other mechanic tell me my engine was shot but the distributor , firing order was all right. Then I had another mechanic tell me that the distributor was in wrong and they fixed it but it didn't run any better. They also said the catalytic converter was plugged causing back pressure in engine. This past weekend I cut the catalytic converters (2 of them) off at the y pipe and now the engine will actually idle but still a little rough (and loud) but now the O2 sensors are not able to do their job. They say catalytic converters are only good for about 10 yrs anyway. To get the one piece replacement cats pipe in you have to drop the tranny crossmember, and to drop that it looks like you have to remove the torsion bars or at least one.

Hope this helps.

just happened to me!! - shop said i needed tune up,which i personally did last summer 4500 miles ago.i told them its not a tune up,more involved than replacing all the parts!!!i picked it up yesterday and after it warmed up,SAME PROBLEM!! took it back within 2 hours of picking it up!Well, they just called me,said they replaced fuel pump and its O.K. now.Now i have to discuss refund on tune-up with them.Oh,they also changed the oil which i do religiously every 3 months. The oil and filter only had 900 miles on them.WISH ME LUCK ON A REFUND!!

Rough idle and intermittant misfire

I have a 2006 with 37800 miles was told today that the fan motor and radiator must be replaced. When the car started to overheat due to the fan motor not running fast enough it blew the freon out too so now a/c wont work either. The bill is close to 1000.00 Dodge offer to pay for labor as GOOD WILL GESTURE 144.00 to be exact. I have taken it in over and over with the same complaint you have described and was told to get a tune up so I did. Warranty espired exactly 3 weeks ago. My sugestiojn would be to sell the damn thing!
