Front end Chevy cobalt loud squeak?!

When its cold, everytime I hit a bump, my 2009 Chevy cobalt makes a LOUD squeaking noise. It sounds more like a deep tones squeak, and only happens when it is cold. i was thinking maybe a bushing, but i am not sure. the dealer says they ''cannot duplicate noise''. Any suggestions?

It is not because of your "high perfromance" suspension.

I have a 2009 Colbalt, 4 door sedan. I have the bottom of the line, basic model. I have also notice the loud squeak when it is cold outside.

I have 4,000 miles on my car, and just went in for my first oil change. I asked if they had any complaints about this issue and of course, they said no.

I drive over 2 speed bumps every morning to get out of my condo complex. If it is 40 degrees or lower, my suspension squeaks very loudly when driving over the speed bumps. After the car has been driven for several miles, the squeak goes away.

The only way the dealership can verify this is if you leave the car there over night, and they start to drive it on a cold morning.

In my opinion, it sound like the Lower control arm bushings that are squeaking.

Only when cold outside, my front end has a loud clunking noise. Once armed up or weather goes above freezing, the sound is no longer audible, all summer no noise. Dealer replaced just about everything under the hood.

If you have the time, take the vehicle to an autoshop of your choice, and ask them to grease all fittings on the front end. My car did the exact same thing, it was the ball joints. You may need a new ball joint, but being a 2009, I highly doubt it unless its been in an accident or something. There are grease fittings on the front, I believe there should be at least 5, maybe more, but the sound you are experiencing is the equivalant to a pogo stick if I'm correct. Hope that helps.

I agree with the answer you got jack up the wheel use a bar 3-4 feet under tire if balljoint is bad there will be excessive motion up & down of the tire not the car

I hit a median while turning left. Why does my vehicle make a loud squeaking noise when I turn the steering wheel or when I hit a bump?

Please get your car checked. You may have bent the Tie rods or the control arm and the Ball joint is making the Squeaking noise. Sway bar end links and Strut bearing will also make noise going over bumps.

Have a 1997 Mountaineer a the front makes this loud squeaking sound when turning/running over speed bumps or any time front suspension is working

It can be bushings in the front sway rods or the control arms. The tie-rod ends or even ball-joint sockets can make noise if they are dry.

My 94 mercury grand marquis makes a very loud squeaking noise when i turn the steering wheel or hit a bump, it sounds like its coming from the passenger front.

There are several possibilities that could be causing your problem.
  • Low on power steering fluid
  • Bad steering box
  • Bad tie rod end
  • Bad ball joints
Assuming the power steering fluid is full, bring the car to any brake shop or repair shop that does front end alignments to diagnose the problem further. I hope you find this points you in the right direction. Thank you for using Fixya! Greg

Loud squeaking and rattling when you accelerate after a stop

Is the underside rusty? If so, take it to a qualified welding and autobody repair shop to have new metal welded on.

Your symptoms sound like the engine or transmission mounts may have deteriorated.

Loud squeaking noise from front end wheel or axle area.

It can be from both the struts and any piece of frame or body that has a rubber mount.(most likely struts and A arms making the noise)
