Question about 2000 Porsche Boxster

Open Question

Can anti-theft lock down system be reset or is purchase of whole thing necessary?

My 2000 Porsche Boxster wnet into locked down mode (reason unknown, wet behind driver's seat from heavy rain) and the dealership says I have to buy the whole anti-theft thing ($2000) but it seems like it could just be reset or reprogramed. Do I have to buy the whole thing?

Try replacing the battery in the key. It may be too weak to engage lock.

This is a common problem. Your alarm was on when the battery went dead. When the alarm activated, the hood/bonnet opening lever locks to prevent thieves from opening the hood in case the top is down. Some boxsters have a jumper post the pulls out near the fuse box. However, I do not think the 1997-1999s have this post.

Buy a male-to-male cigarette lighter adapter at the auto store. Connect between your car's cigarette lighter socket and the other car's cigarette lighter socket. Do not try to start the ignition or the any other electronics. You should not even need the key in the ignition. You should be able to pop the door locks with the remote and open the bonnet.

How to reset anti-theft on a 2000 alero

The security, antitheft or lock picture/icon is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterprets this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle. This link explains it pretty well.

If you are asking for the anti-theft system reset code, that is probably only available through the factory or dealer, and proof of ownership is required.

We do not have anti-theft radio codes, they are stored on the factory database and we do not have access to that system, it is secure.

Really should diconnect he battery and charge it up for a day or so. Then give it a spin. Shd be OK. The low batery level is playing havoc with the security system sending false signals triggering various states of lay up mode.
