SOURCE: 1996 mitsubishi eclipse doesn't start when turning

check for voltage at the small start wire on the starter when cranking the engine--you will need someone help. If there is no voltage you may have a bad neutral safety switch ,which is on the trany shifter.you have an automatic trans i assume.
If so try putting in neutral when cranking.

My 2000 Mitsubishi eclipse ran fine till I replaced the starter, now it just clicks when I try to start, checked battery and wiring connections, they all look good, and yet it still just clicks, once each...

I would remove the starter and hook the wires back up and while it is out of the engine try to start the engine, if the starter spins then it is good and your problem might be that it was in a bind or the motor is locked up. I am assuming that the starter is brand new also, if used or refurb you might take it to a parts store and have them put it on a tester.

Try checking the wiring from the battery to the engine and the spark plugs. If either are faulty replace them. That's the only other thing I can think of.

You spent too much money or you have a whole lot more to spend. Bench test your starter beside your car to see if it works not connected to your car. If your car is a standard, push the car in neutral and put it in drive. See if the engine turns over. If you have an automatic, hook a socket to the crankshaft and try to move the pulley. Yes I am saying your engine may not be moving. Keep in touch.

Hello! I'd be glad to...First off, when you say it won't start do you mean the starter motor will not crank (spin) the engine?...If so, what do you hear when the ignition key is turned; A click or silence?

Starter sounds like a good place to start.
Make sure battery is in good condition and fully charged, as wellas the battery cables and wiring to the starter(no corrision,0r looseness).

I turn the key and ignition wont start it's chuggs and iv'e just replaced the water pump and iv'e made for sure that the timeing was all correct wich it is and there are no leaks! i had it started earlier...

could be battery like you said make sure all electricala connections from battery to solenoid to starter are thight and snug if that doesnt fix it then take the starter and hook it directly to a 12 battery or battery charger to see if it throughs out the gear and spins. do that a few times if it doesnt spin or 1 in 5 tries its doesnt spin then its probally you starting motor its self. you can try to start the car directly by connecting only the positive battery terminal with a booster cable and with the ignition in the on position touch the other end of the booster cable to the starting motors terminal. if the car starts goo then its most likely your solenoid or cables. if you try this make sure the car is in park "for auto" . or neutral on a manual transmission.
