If the break switch is out it does shut it off, but I would have to keep removing it. I'm removing the electrical relay under the hood in the fuse box.

Sounds like the switch is not working corrrectly, or it is not adjusted right. The switch should be open when the pedal is not depressed.

I've replaced the switch twice and had it adjusted. Lights still on!

SOURCE: Tail lights don't work on 1998 Chevy Silverado.

check the wiring from the tailights back to the fuse panel, it sounds like an open connection. if i recall correctly check under the dash on the drivers side near the fuse panel for a bunch of wires in a bundle and look carefully for a wire or two that are cut/shorted/or seperated, you can also check under the drivers side kick panel by the hood release.

It should be your brake light switch. There is a little plate welded to the arm of the pedal that has a hole with a rubber stopper. The rubber stopper is most likely missing, or damaged. You should be able to take a flashlight and see the plate and the switch. If the hole is plugged up, you will need the brake light switch, if not, replace the plug.

Chevy has a different circuit for the brake-lights. Strange that the brake-lights don't go out, after the fuse and/or relay is removed. Unplug the brake-light switch. Are the brake-lights out now? The brake-light circuit travels through the turn signal switch. There could be a failure inside the turn signal switch or there could be a short in the circuit, causing the brake-lights to stay on. You can try removing fuses that have to do with protecting the turn signal and hazard flasher circuit. If this allows the brake lights to go out then I think you will have narrowed it down. What other tests have you run? Have you removed and inspected the lighting in the rear? Do you have a trailer hitch? I ask because in some applications, there can be a 12volt power source. If the power wire shorts against the brake-light wire, you can have this fault. Please let me know if this helps and feel free to write back with any questions. Be as detailed as you can. You are the eyes and ears of this subject, good luck.

I have a 1998 chevy c1500 and all three of my brake lights stay on and i have already replaced the switch with a new one

Most brake light switches have a small nib or piston/pushrod which is depressed by the pedal when the pedal returns. Many pedals are fitted with a metal plate and sometimes a plastic bung, which connects with the brake switch's pushrod. If this pushrod isn't being pushed in when the pedal returns, then the brakes are going to stay on. Check this operation carefully and please report.

1994 Chevy C1500 truck. No rear brake lights

Most likely this is a brake light switch issue. Replace switch.

If your emergency flashers don't work, all flasher bulbs are fine, but flashing too fast, then check and replace Hazard light switch.

My brake lights wont turn off in my 1992 chevy lumina i bought a brake light switch for it and tryed installing it i got it in but the brake lights never turn off when i hit the brake petal and releas

There should be a switch that is activated by the brake pedal. There should be a way to adjust the switch so the brake lights function correctly.

1997 Chevy Lumina REAR BRAKE LIGHTS DONT WORK

This will either be a fuse or the brake light switch which is on the pedal it's self. More likely the switch as these are fickle at best.

'91 Chevy Lumina, brake lights remain lit even when car is shut off. Can't figure out why.

check the brake light switch located on the brake pedal lever, up under the drivers side of the dash. There is power to the switch all the time whether the key is on or off. If the switch is bad, misadjusted, or fell out of its mount than the brake lights will stay on all the time.

The brake lights won't go out. I pulled the fuse so the battery doesn't go dead, but can't figure out why they are staying lit.

on your brake pedal there is a switch that controls your brake lights over time it comes to lose just enough for the switch won't come in contact with the pedal

Check the turn signal switch. especially if the center brake is the only brake light that comes on when you step on the brake pedal. Sometimes wiggling the switch will get the brake lights to work momentarily.
