Battery overcharge Hi, i have a 1996 xk8,the car was left in the garage for a few months and the battery went dead, i foolishly boosted it with a jump pack and it started but the dash lights were pulsing, it then started showing lots of faults up on the dash, trans fault, stability control ect,and running irraticaly, the ameter was showing overcharge.I have replaced the battery and the alternator but the ameter in the dash is still showing overcharge,i have also tested with a multimeter and its showing 18.4. the other thing i have noticed is that the lights on the car are no longer working (side or head) and it is still showing faults up on the dash as before, i love the car but am realy getting cheesed off with it now, can anyone help please. thanks Terry

I would think that your vehicle has a voltage regulator built into the alternator, but I am not sure. I do not have alot of Jag experience. But this sounds like what your problem is. The voltage regulator is stuck and making the alternator put out full charge and wreaking havoc with your electrical system.

Need to jump my 2014 Honda Civic - it's in the garage and I can't get it into neutral to move out for a jump. Help?

Near the shifter there is a cap, remove it with a small screwdriver and insert your key or the screwdriver. While pushing it in, you will be able to shift into neutral.

1996 toyota corolla, battery & alternator

If the battery has been overcharged then the cells will be damaged . Have a load test done on the battery to confirm failure and if so then get a new battery.. have the alternator checked at the same time because there is a possibility that the regulator in the alternator has been also damaged allowing over charging of the battery. By having incorrectly connected the jumper leads then you may have also damaged the cpu unit of the engine management box. Best have an autro electrician look at it .

I have a 2006 x5 4.8, my battery kept running dead and and most of the warning light would come on. I changed the battery, i left the country for a month and put the car int the garage on a trickel...

also the batery in the vehicle has to be registered to the car. this means you have to go to the dealer to register it. it requires this because the car learns the charging charactreristics of the battery and charges it accordingly. if not registered, the battery will either under charge or overcharge.

Yes batterys can come apart inside. The plate breakdown and drop into bottom not allowing charge anymore. Low charge can do alot of weird things to you jag. Replace the battery and when you do have them check alternator charging ability while your there. Almost all auto store will do this for free.

I've tried boosting my car, but my car wont start. It has been sitting in the garage for about a year. A new alternator and battery were put in about a year ago. Why isn't my car starting now?

if the battery is completely dead, it may need to be charged properly rather than boosted. if you have access to a battery charger, try that.
