Can I change my buddy's plugs on his 2006 Jetta gasoline- 2.5 litre with normal euro-metric tools? Dealer makes him think it's a laborious, expensive ordeal. Should it cost $250.00 Are these plugs that costly?

I have a 2006 VW Jetta 2.0T. Just wondering how to remove the engine cover without breaking any tabs, or where are the screws to remove it? Also, are iridium plugs recommended for the 2.0T, they were great in my 04 VR6?
