Open your trunk and pull back the carpet behind the taillight assembly you should see several connections on the back, you want the one in the center, or red part of the tailight, twist the connection counterclockwise, i believe, look to make sure. it should be pretty simple and easy to figure out, its a twin fillament bulb that pulls straight out

check the brake switch at the top of the brake pedal and try these websites www.alldatadiy.com and the other one is www.autozone.com if they have your car listed you be able to check out a price and get pictures and diagrams at the same time.
Waht do you mean is damaged the axle its self or just the inside gears(Ring and Pinion) are bad>If its the insides then yes the ring and pinion will inner change.Just be sure to use the assembly,pinion,ring gear,spider gears and all shims..
maybe the gas smell is on your hands? or it's just kind of lingering for a while. as long as it goes away after a little while, and you don't notice that your gas is leaking out of the tank I would think everything is fine.
have you tried jumping the engine directly? It wont fix your problem permanently but might get the car started and give you a better idea of what is wrong. connect the negative cable to the engine block and the positive to the battery, good luck hope this helps
