I have a 2005 Suzuki Verona and the shifter goes into park, but the tranny don't. The display shows a P,R,N and D overlaid onto one another. You have to start the car in N. Any ideas?

ok ,

you said the tranny dont. how do you know that.?
starting (its really cranking) works in park and neutral both.
this is normal.
so since you got to N, that means it not the PARK lockout feature failing.
so if it shifts to N, and cranks and then starts and they you'd shift to D, what happens then in D?>?????????????
you never said !

if car runs ok started in N but only fails to crank in park
that means the P/N switch is bad, (p/n park neutral crank start line fails in park but not Neutral means the P side is worn out, as all do )

Car won't start lights and radio work just had catalytic convertor replaced 2 days ago

First explain why it won't go into neutral. This may be the problem for no start.

Why did my truck quit running while driving? Lights radio etc are fine.

There are many things that could be the problem. The main thing is the transmission. You should go to the nearest auto shop and get it checked out for any problems around that area.

Automatic not changing gears

check the shifter mechanism for binding up and not moving freely into positions. Not starting in park but in neutral indicates something is out of alignment with the shifter. May just need cleaning and a bit of oil/grease to fix.

My '94 Ford Taurus stalls whenever its idling in neutral or drive, in park its completely fine. When I give it gas in drive or neutral its completely fine and runs perfect but if i come to a light, or slow...

Disconnect your battery black wire off for 1/2 hour reconnect turn on all assesorys lights radio blower start car leave run for 5 min shut off for 5 min idle is controled by the computer the load
brings the idle up. Should be ok if not you may have to ajust the idle screw a little and then do this all over

Will not start while on park after driving for ten

Your dealership can read the codes entered into your car's computer every time it malfunctions. Same problem as yours, however, also gets worse, back up lights won't work, sticks in park (in the gas stationing) (very embarrassing), will only run with foot on gas, etc. It was the "neutral safety switch". $500 fix but runs and starts perfectly all the time.

the neutral safety switch is probably faulty the radio says safety because the wrong code was entered 3 time key needs to be on for 3 hours hook up battery charger check engine light may be code for trans issue

This car is a column shifter I HAVE A 1997 MERCURY SABLE, ONE OF THE PROBLEMS IS THAT THE REAR TURN SIGNAL AND HAZARD DON'T WORK, ONLY THE FRONT ONE ARE OK.FUSE IS OK,BULBS ARE OK, TURN SIGNAL FLASHER OK...

the turn signal problem sounds like the multifunction switch (the turn signal switch) is bad as far as the radio and windows it sounds like the trans range sensor is bad it is located on top of the trans at the shift linkage
